  1. Yes I there is a fairly new review for RMB in the reviews section of the forum. You might have to go a few pages in to find it as it has been a week or 2. There are also about 3 or 4 of us leaving very soon for our weddings at the end of Feb begining of March. (3 of us as just days apart). We will have full reports and pics when we get back, so there will be more soon!
  2. My FI has not previously been to Jamaica and hasn't really gone far outside of the US. For his birthday I decided to create a travel guide on Jamaica for him. I tried to cover every item that he might have had a question about. In the end my book ended up being 34 pages. (I have a tendency to get carried away with DIY stuff) I copied and pasted allot of the info from web and did use a few of the travel guides that have been posted on this forum as well. (can't remember whose...so if I copied from you...I'd love to give you credit) The guide is fairly specific to the Montego Bay area and the Riu resort, but those areas can easily be altered for your specific resort just by coping the info from the resort itself. I deleted all the info about us (our monogram, flight info, wedding reservation paperwork, etc). I did put the info in a binder with tabbed chapters, so Joel could easily find the specific info he wanted to read. I hope someone else can use some of the info I have here, you can easily trim it down to a more manageable size. Travel Book Edit.doc
  3. Oh, and there is also the Bare Minerals starter kit included in the sale. $60 before...but just $48 with the 20% off Ulta.com - Cosmetics, Fragrance, Salon and Beauty Gifts
  4. Just wanted to give a quick FYI to all those girls out there that are thinking about DIY makeup for the wedding. I have read many of the threads here about using mineral makeup and the dreaded washed out effect it can cause. Well on here, as well as many places on the web, Smashbox's Photo Finish Foundatoin Primer was suggested as a solution. I had wanted to purchase it myself...but it runs about $42 a bottle....ouch! I got my Ulta flyer in the mail today and they had a great deal on certain Prestige cosmetics. This includes and awesome kit by Smashbox . This includes a FULL SIZE of the Photo finish with the SPF 15 in it, as well as 4 other full size products. All for $47.00!! But here is the kicker...if you use coupon code 97344, you will get an additional 20% off these items. This make the kit $37...that's less than the Photo Finish by itself. Whoo Hoo Here is the link to all the sale items: Products on ::ULTA:: I also picked up the Too Faced Lash Injection mascara...that is the "tubes" mascara that there is a thread about on here as well. I'll report back on how that works when I get a chance to try it.
  5. I was wondering...I know we have to use cash or Travlers Checks for payment of the photgraphers, but what about the wedding package? How did all of you pay the fees for the wedding package? cash, check, credit card, travlers check? I am going to go to the bank to get travlers checks for the photography, but I was wondering if I should get them for the wedding package as well...or will they take a credit card. If they do take a cc...is there an additional fee? Thanks.
  6. Update - well the ring was delivered today!! Pretty quickly esp. as it came all the way from Hong Kong. It is so cool. It is not solid like most other rings, but moves and folds up like a watch band or bicycle chain. The black ceramic part is very similar to hematite in color and the tungsten part is a smokey silver color. Because it moves it is very comfortable to wear. It has a good weight to it, but it isn't too heavy. I'm pretty critical when it comes to jewelry quality, as it's my job...and I am very happy with this one.
  7. I will try to take some pics of the muslin version tomorrow, but here are a few of the vintage dress. It does fit me, but it is a little too worn for the wedding. I purchased it from a man whose wife had been a jazz singer and this dress was one she worn on stage. I have made a few style mods to the new version. Front Back And here is Jean Harlow in the picture that inspired my dress
  8. My very close friend is a designer that is applying for her graduate degree in historical clothing (she wants to work for a museum). She is making my dress based on a 1930s Harlow gown that I own. I have been really exited not only to have my perfect dress, but have it made by someone whose friendship means allot to me. We were making plans to get together tomorrow for the 2nd fitting of the muslin version of the dress. I asked her how much I need to give her for the fabric and work. She then tells me that the dress is free for me! I can’t believe it. She says it is free mainly as my wedding gift from her to me, but also because she is using the dress and it’s construction based on the old dress are going to be part of her graduate school application. She has even arranged for a photographer friend to take bridal portraits so she can send them in with the application. So I get my dream dress for free and bridal portraits as well. I can’t believe it. I feel like I should do something special to thank her, but I am not sure what. I'm doin' a happy dance!!
  9. Yah, I haven't been on here in a little while. I own a small boutique and Christmas time is crazy for me. I didn't have time to keep up with the site. Now that Christmas is over I can get around to doing all the last minute things I have left to do. I just got off the phone with my parents. They are helping me pick out the photography package. They aren't going to be there, so they want to make sure we get enough photos. Have you picked all your stuff out yet?
  10. I had the original documents copied and then had the xerox copies notoried. That is what I sent to Jamaica. I still have our original birth certs, passports, etc. Also I sent the documents via certified mail. In the US they seal and stamp the envelope so it's trackable and you can tell if it was opened before it gets to its destination. It cost a bit more, but the security is worth it.
  11. I sent the notorized copies, but scanned them and e-mailed them to RMB before I did so...so they have 2 copies. I am also going to e-mail myself the copies to a yahoo e-mail address so I can acess them from Jamica in an emergency. Also, I had the long version of the birth certificate and FI had the short. They haven't said anything to us yet about that being wrong...so I think you are OK.
  12. I was on the Trip Advisor forums recently and found out that the Chicago Bears are doing a special football fan event at Riu Montego Bay March 2 to March 9. We are leaving on March 3, so we will miss most of it. I think it's going to be crazy. I know someone else on here was there right after me...and thought they might want to know. Looks like you get to meet 5 of the players. Could be cool. http://http://www.applevacations.com...ach/bears.html
  13. We bought it on EBay. There are 3 sellers with the same ring, but the place we bought it from had the best rating and communication. (He responded to my questions multiple times very quickly...and he is in Hong Kong!) Just search on ceramic tungsten ring to see the others...but here is the listing we bought from: http://http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayIS...lenotsupported
  14. Wow, I can't believe how close we all are. It went SO fast. Things I finished recently: Ordered FI wedding band Made my 'something blue' earrings (actually I made 3 pairs, now I just have to choose) Mailed paperwork to Jamaica Things I'm working on this weekend: Pay off trip balance 2nd dress fitting (muslin version) Find FI new swim trunks and ceremony pants
  15. I know, I think he was being pickier than me! Guys always make fun of girls for stuff like this...but when it comes down to it, they are just as bad.
  16. Well I have been searching all over trying to find a ring for FI. I work in the jewelry industry, so I kept showing him wholesale catalogs and websites with rings I thought he would like. Heck, I even took him to a wholesale jewelry show a few months ago so he could see some in person and try them on...all to luke warm results. Well he was on EBay looking for computer parts and he found his dream ring. It is a modified knock off of a Chanel Ultra ring. It has a few style differences from the Chanel ones...but I think it is so cool. We ordered it off EBay direct from the manufacturer, so it is being custom made. I didn't get to use my wholesale connections (couldn't find anyone in Seattle that had the ring)...but we still got a good deal on it. It is Tungsten and black ceramic. I can't wait to see it in person
  17. I am interested to know the answer to this question as well...but I have an additional question. I know with the package you get the pics you choose on disk in high res, but do you get a copy of all the pics in low res? If so what res and do they have watermarks? I edit photos for my website all the time and can do my own. I just want a decent copy of all my photos and not have to pay a large sum for them.
  18. I have a couple of big checks off my to do list. First, I sent the paperwork yesterday! Yeah! It was the one thing I was not looking forward to. The thought of standing in line after line at the court house getting all the paperwork ready didn't sound like fun, but it turned out to be not that bad; and I even found a parking spot on the street...in Downtown Seattle...that's a miracle in itself. Next, the muslin version of my dress is ready. I am having a friend who is a designer make a custom dress for me based on a 1930s dress I own. For those who are confused…when you have something custom made (not from an existing pattern) many designers will first make the item in an inexpensive fabric (in this case muslin) to make sure the style and fit are correct before they make the item in the more expensive fabric. I should be able to try it on as soon as we can figure out a time to meet. I’m so excited!!! Top things I still have to do: Get my wedding band sized Get on Joel to pick out his ring Find pants for Joel for the ceremony I can’t believe how fast time is going. It’s almost here!
  19. I just sent our paperwork today via registered mail. I don't know if it is the same in Canada as it is in the US...but my birth cert was the long copy and FI's birth cert was the short or "card" version that some states give. I did send digital copies to Chantelle asking her if there were any problems to let me know ASAP so we have time to get them corrected. I'll make sure and post if the short version is rejected. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it all gets there correctly.
  20. I am going with a slightly vintage theme. We are eloping, so no wedding party, etc. My dress is an exact copy of a 1930's Harlow gown that I own. The original fits me and is beautiful, but not in good enough shape for the wedding. I have a friend that is applying for a masters degree in London for fashion history. ( she wants to work for a museum). She was a designer for Nordstrom for years and is making a pattern from the original. I own a vintage jewelry and accessories store, so I have all the jewels, etc covered. I’ve written a few blog posts about historical bridal fashion: Lil'Paisley~The Vixen of Vintage Blog: Bride To Be Here is a pic of the original vintage gown I’m having redone. My gown should be ready shortly and I hope to have pics of it in a few weeks. The original Dress
  21. All this talk about Nordstrom.com brings back a flood of memories for me. I worked for Nordstrom.com for 10 years and worked on that website from the very beginging. I still have a t-shirt and plaque we got the day the website launched. To answer some of your questions about if the dresses are online and in-store...FYI - when Nordstrom.com first started it was not owned by the Nordstrom corporation, it was seperate. Only a few years ago did the Nordtrom Corp purchase the website and start to intergrate the business together. They are working VERY hard to get the 'behind the scences' computer systems lined up so the website will show the store inventory, etc. It just takes time. Unless you live near one of the larger Nordstrom stores, you will not likely have the Bridal dresses in your store. But! many of the sales associates in store can get those dresses sent to the store near you. All the cash registers have access to the website and they can help you get the dresses. Also, you can return online purchases to the store and have alterations done instore as well. If you guys have questions about Nordstrom policies (returns, orders, etc) just let me know. If I hadn't left to start my own business...I'd still be working there
