Congrats! - We were in Jamaica this past Spring and loved it! Welcome to the forum!!
  2. Congrats on the engagement!!! Welcome!!!
  3. I'm kinda replying more to the beginning of thread... we are only expecting 20-25 people (will know for sure when RSVPs come in Feb - wedding is in May). We are having our ceremony at 4PM- the white glove mexican cocktail party(i think $21/person?) set up on the beach- that will start at end of ceremony (approx 4:30?) to when we are seated for dinner at 6PM -planning on taking all the pictures then, and the guests can relax, eat, drink ,etc. We are doing the free dinner at El Cocotal at 6PM -then doing the private party at the covered pool afterwards- the chocolate fondue (i think $14/person?)/cake cutting. The following evening (which is sat- and most guests are leaving on sunday am) we are having a private beachfront/candlelit dinner with our guests - we are choosing off the one of the private events menu- salad, entree and dessert - i think it'll will be $48/person....... This is all contingent on our number of guests- if we have more than 25 guests- then our "extras" will have to start being cut out! Oh yes- I started out with Monica- and have been dealing with Valeria- and she has been AMAZING. She answers my questions within the hour or two!--and is always very upbeat and positive... I have been thrilled with Valeria!
  4. Hey guys! I hired Cancun Studios to shoot my wedding at EDR in May. She was shooting a wedding at EDR last week and sent me some pictures. I also asked for an update about how the outside vendor policy went;how she handled it-- she said her bride was buying a guest pass for her. This is what she wrote back:... "Well, we had a great wedding at El Dorado. The clients purchased the day passes for us and all seemed to be going well but the coordinators are very sharp with these issues. They didn't make us feel too welcome. Honestly, I do not know what happened in the end but our client was really upset about the whole situation. I just hope all turned out well. I know he was planning on fighting any fees with the credit card company that may have been added without his authorization or signature. Luckily, most credit cards do protect against unauthorized purchases. But honestly Shannon, we have really been analyzying this situation with the hotels. El Dorado is one of many resorts that impose this ridiculous outside vendor fee. Sometimes it is easier to play along with their rules because they make everyone's lives much easier. For us, we were very uneasy the whole day playing a role as a guest when in reality, we were there to provide a service in a place where we felt very unliked and not welcome by the wedding coordinators. " She is offering to pay half of the $500 fee. She is taking off $250 off our photography package -and asking us to pay the fee- so she'll pay half. Even though it is my personality to fight and not pay the fee and "give in" -for me, the peace of mind, about nothing going wrong that day with the photographer, etc -is worth it. And it's too late to change resorts/venue! She said she'd be willing to do this for other clients as well. In the meantime, I'll be sending nasty emails to Karisma about the policy! Here is her website: CANCUN STUDIOS Here is the pictures from last week's wedding at EDR for any curious EDR brides! El Dorado Royale
  5. How cool is this!??!?! I swear I'm never going to pass my class for toward my MBA this semester- hehe----- this monogram thing is so much more fun to play with than school!! Thanks!!!
  6. The save the dates were free!! My very creative (and very preg- which is why she didn't do the invitations- baby Isabelle was more than enough for her to handle) friend did them for me- and I just gave her a $75 gift card to her fav store- Pottery Barn.. The invitations- ouch-- Hopefully the financee doesn't log on and see this posting- hehe-- we are sending out 55, and we are paying $710 - this included calligraphy addressing, postage for reply envelopes w/ addressing, etc... but I love them!! By a local company here in Cary, NC -- Unique Wedding Invitations and Stationery by The Green Kangaroo hmm- well i thought I'd copy a pic of them but can't figure out how to do it- -hehe---
  7. OMG- you guys are GREAT-- thanks Morgan and Christine!! No offense to our wonderful males-- -but only women can run a forum like this! This rock!! and yes Morgan, EDR does have a weird policy... but from what I've read on here, some EDR brides are bringing their own and putting on guest list--- I asked Jill from Cancun Studios what her bride on Wednesday is doing and she said she had a day guest pass and hadn't heard anything thing else.. so we'll see... Would be ideal just to be able to buy a day pass for the photog and register them as guest and that be it--- just hope the photog wouldn't get kicked out!
  8. The guys "called" Cancun- so our resort is a 40 minutes ferry ride to Cozumel-- anyone know anything about Cozumel for a girls day/night?!?!? I told them they could have Cancun- but I better not see anyone of them near Cozumel- hehe.. what goes on in Cozumel..... LOL
  9. I received a response from Jill from Cancun Studios Photography- they seem super nice and very reasonable prices... Packages ranging from $650 to $2750 -- has anyone heard anything about them- or anyone booked with them. I am getting married at EDR--- and she emailed me and said she is shooting a wedding there tomorrow and will send me some pictures so I can get a better feel....... Love any feedback!! Thanks!! here's website... CANCUN STUDIOS
  10. Welcome- you'll love it!!
  11. I'm probably not suppose to post a reply to a post I started- but aww!!everyone is so nice!! super excited-- i see friends/people at work/fiancee's (hehe) eyes start to glaze over at so much wedding talk- excited to be able to chat w/ other brides!!
  12. Was worried about reservation system-- beeper system works well here, so I think that was a good move by the resort -and something it seems like they changed bc of the many complaints listed on tripadvisor.com, etc--- now if we can only get rid of the retarded policy regarding outside photographers! Slightly worried about the dresscode-- alot of my friends families-- guys would wear flip flops with casual pants -or the girls would wear flip flops with sun dresses-- oh well, I guess I'll look at it as another excuse to do some shoe shopping -hehe
  13. Am I completely retarded? New to site- getting married at EDR in May, 2008 -- what are OTT bags-- something I should know!?!!?!
