  1. unfortunately, i'm lugging all of my stuff with me. I'm carrying all the vases and breakable items in my (my fiance's, my mom's and my dad's) hand luggage and packing everything else.
  2. My dad has a friend who manages a reggae band. They will already be in JA for the time of my wedding, so I was wondering if I could bring them in for my reception.....plus i think that they are willing to match the resort price AND play longer!!
  3. Does anyone know if we are allowed to bring in our own entertainment. Is there a charge? I emailed Chandlyn, but i have been waiting on a response.
  4. Yayyyyy!!! Mo's Back!!!!!!!!!! I'm so glad that you had a fantastic day!! You and your new hubby look absolutely lovely together! Congrats!!

  6. We had a wedding website that had STD info and then we had a big wedding shower (combination of an engagement party and co-ed bridal shower) back on the east coast in August. After the wedding shower, we mailed out the invites and our guests have until Nov. 15 to rsvp (not pay, but rsvp). Our TA recommended that we send ours out early to give people enough time to get their passports and to also save up money for the trip.

Irie, the 30 that you have leaving from Baltimore, are they all of for the same flight time? are they on the exact same flight together?

At first she quoted me almost 1k more to fly first class on Air Jamaica for me and my FI. Just yesterday, after reading this thread, she told me that Air Jamaica only upgrades brides and grooms if they have 22 seats filled (which we do), but it has to be on the same flight, time, day, etc... Is this true? We have booked over 22 seats with Air Jamaica through their sales department. Does it have to be on the same flight?
  9. Hi Mo!!! If we don't hear anything else from you, we know why!!!!!!!! YOU ARE EITHER HAVING A BLAST, OR YOU'VE HAD TOO MUCH RUM PUNCH Anyway, can't wait for you to get back. We miss you!! Enjoy!
  10. yayyyy MO!!!! Have a FABULOUS time and be sure to report back. Congrats!!!
  11. Chicago, there is another thread floating around titles "Ocho Rios Riu Reception Pictures" or something like that. It has a picture of the plantation reception setup. http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...-pictures.html
  12. Thanks for all of your help Jennifer!! Unfortuanetly, my budget won't stretch to Negril, so we would either have to remain in Ochi or Montego bay. I'm thinking that we will go with Couples Ocho Rios just because I really want to go horseback riding. I hope that I'm not terribly dissapointed by the rooms. I've heard that rooms in the "Main" building have been renovated.
  13. I thought the standard dinner reception time for the plantation restaurant was 6:30pm? Is there a choice to have it later? I read that someone is scheduled for a 7:00pm dinner. Are there other time slots available?? Chandlyn only informed me of the 6:30pm. Also, if you rent the disco for 2 hours, all hard liquor, and DJ are included in the rental price. I'm not sure about the hard liquor for the Plantation.
  14. My parents are both from Jamaica. They both grew up very poor and could not afford a wedding, so they wed at a friends home. My mom did not have a "standard" wedding dress. She wore a dress that she had already had in her closet which was pink and my dad wore a pants with a blazer. From what i gather, there really aren't any traditions out of the ordinary that I know of other than the "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, etc....and the rum cake (which i don't like).
  15. Jerzzygirl, thanks for providing. My email is [email protected]. It looks like your setup was in Mammee Bay. Riubride, are those the standard chairs and napkins for the plantation? I hope so, because I really like the colors.
  16. Does anyone have any?? I always see pics of the actual ceremony set-up, but I can't recall seeing any pics of the reception area setup. Can anyone provide some pics? Jerzzygirl, did you take any? Thanks!!!
  17. Definetly the beach gazebo.........i've been searching for decorating gazebo ideas. Chandlyn sent over 1 picture to me but I wasn't really thrilled about the decor.
  18. Yep Heidi.......i've been all up and down in Tripadvisor and couples even has a message board on their site, but i'm still having a hard time deciding which one. They both offer good and bad reviews........it's very mixed. I'm confused because i've read that the rooms at couples OR are older and not so "up to date", but this resort offers more excursions including horseback riding where couples san souci may have better rooms, but offers less excursions. Both are important to me. Has anyone ever been to either. If so, Thanks!!
  19. I've finally decided that i would like to do our honeymoon in a different location than our ceremony. We will be getting married at Riu Ocho Rios, and originally, we were scheduled to stay for the entire 2 weeks, but after finding out that half of my guests are choosingTO TRAVEL OUTSIDE of my SUGGESTED time frame and after thinking about friends and family members knocking on our door intruding on our honeymoon, I think it's best for us to go to a different resort for our honeymoon. I am thinking about either AI Couples Ocho Rios or AI Couples San Souci. They both include all activities and excursions in their price (horseback riding, scuba diving, dunns river falls tours, golfing, cayaking, etc...) Do you guys know anything about either of these locations? Which is better? I've heard mixed reviews. Any info would be helpful. Thanks
  20. another alternative is just to extend the plantation for 4 hours instead of 2. For the first 2, eat, and then last 2 hours, dance. I was told that the plantation has an area for dancing.
  21. Jerzzy, was that the free cake that was included or did you have to pay extra for that design?
  22. I'm from Largo, Maryland. I'm confused between Couples Ocho Rios and Sandals Grande. I want to honeymoon at a place that is very romantic and has alot of INCLUSIVE outdoor & water activities (snorkling, cayaking, horseback riding, etc...)
