  1. I think with the boat excursion, you can do a sail/snorkel trip or a dinner/dancing type trip. I am thinking about doing this too. I saw on another thread a couple people mentioned the Coba Ruins is a nice (and reasonable) tour, if your guests might like to see some of the ruins. On a slightly divergent topic.... for those of you who have been to the IB Lindo, what building number did you stay in and do you have any recommendations? Do you know if it was relatively easy to get your guests booked in the same area (and if so, how did you do it - through your travel agent or when you arrived)? Thanks so much!!!!
  2. Thank you, everyone, for sharing your pictures! And thanks for the food review too! I'm getting married at IB Lindo on November 5 and the pictures just confirmed that we picked the right place!
  3. Hi, welcome! I looked at the Riu as well, but they have a requirement that a certain percentage of your guests has stay at their hotel, something like 80%. I'm planning on having around 50 guests, and I want my guests to have a choice in where they stay, so that was a deal-breaker for me. If you're having a smaller wedding, that may not be an issue for you. The travel agent who is helping me also said that the Riu's have had some problems with their beaches eroding. She recommended the Lindo to me. Good luck!
  4. Congratulations and Welcome! Something I've read a lot is that everyone worries, but once they get there, it turns out great. Mine is not until November 2008, but there are plenty of people here who have had their weddings and lots of good advice.
  5. Welcome and congratulations! I spent HOURS on tripadvisor.com reading through other travelers' reviews and looking at photos. You can also do a search on the word wedding and see what comes up. Our family vacation 3 years ago was a Disney cruise. I don't have kids, but my sis had 3 when we went. I wasn't sure the adults would have a good time, but we did. The night entertainment could be better, but they have a GREAT kids program; the kids loved it and can stay there as long as you/they want. The theme dinners are fun too. We saw a couple who got married on the ship, and I bet the pictures were gorgeous (the atrium area is beautiful). Anyway, good luck!
  6. Thanks, everyone! I feel much better about it now! And it's nice to know other people were wondering about it too. (I wanted the date 11.08.08, so you're not the only one thinking about the actual numbers)
  7. Does anyone have thoughts about having a wedding in Mexico on a Friday? It shouldn't really matter, if it's on a Friday or Saturday.... right? If people don't want to take an extra day off to travel, they probably wouldn't have come in the first place? I can't believe the Saturdays in November 2008 are already gone!
  8. that does stink... it can be so confusing with the same hotel name! I would think you could get either the hotel or Orbitz to make the switc for you, if you go high enough within the organization. I know one of the sites similar to Orbitz (I can't remember if it's travelocity or a different one) now advertises that they have customer support to help with issues like this, so maybe you can use that as leverage (their competition is doing it, so they should too)? Good luck!!
  9. We haven't made a final decision, but I think we are going to do the reverse of PaulaV -- getting married in PDC and then to Cancun (maybe at an adults only) for several days. There are some GREAT hm's planned... I'm very jealous!
  10. This may be a stupid question, but I'm going to ask anyway! Are you having your wedding at the resort... if so, will they allow you to have a cake brought in from the outside? I think we're getting married at the Grand Palladium, and the only way to customize the cake is to bring your own cake topper!
  11. Nov 8, 2008 -- we will have a fair amount of families attending (at least I think), so we kind of planned it around the teachers convention in Nov (not sure if this is just in NJ -- almost all schools are off for 2 days). I heard that the nights are a bit cool in Mexico in Nov, so I'm having second thoughts on whether to move it up (though it will certainly be warmer than NJ in Nov)... any thoughts are welcome!
  12. Hi! I am also new... planning a November 2008 wedding in Playa del Carmen. After weeks of looking at tripadvisor reviews and pictures, I'm pretty sure that we've decided on having it at the Grand Palladium. We were considering the Riu, but the 80% rule had me concerned; we're having 50-70 guests. Anyway, this looks like a great site!
