My children have to put 60% of any money that they receive away to save, this includes baby sitting money, money for doing chores over and above what is expected of them (I don't believe in allowance), and Christmas money. I let them keep 100% of their birthday money:) When they get a part time job this system will still apply. I also expect my children to work hard to maintain their marks and hopefully scholarships will come into play for them. I will also pay for all of their books, I will do what I can to help them but I think they will work harder if they have a stake in the investment of their education, I have heard too many stories of 1st year students partying away their university days, that will not be my child or they are on their own. Oh and as the mother of 5, I applaud this woman, she is a far better mother then many I know who only have 1 or 2 kids. I however still thinks she's nut's, who wants to be pregnant 18 flipp'n times! Four times was more then enough for me, my poor body never fully recovered (that's my story it's the children's fault I am all soft and jiggly, not he lack of exercise or the warm loaves of sour dough bread I like to indulge in) from the agonizing joy of pregnancy:)
  4. I got married in Punta Cana in August and I had my reception on the beach and it was perfect. We hardly had any wind on our trip, except for hurricain Dean, lol. The beach feels a little cooler(not much though) then away from the beach. I say go for it and have the beach reception there will be no prettier backdrop:)
  5. Melissa see you on face book:)
  6. Can't wait, doesn't sound like we are going to have a large crowd, but I think Everton and I can help you do some damage Jason:) Oh yeah we may have friends with us also.
  7. Our guys went deep sea fishing the day before, and the morning of the wedding they had a beach volly ball game, they had a blast. I say let him do what he wants, guys usually let us do what we want without any input, so why not return the setiment and trust them to have fun and be smart:)
  8. Tami, you look beautiful. Love your crazy groomsmen, looks like a blast was had by all. Congratulations on becoming a Mrs and I can't wait for more pictures:)
  9. Tammy you really must give us much more difficult questions then this:) She is really adorable, how many fosters does this make this year
  10. I am not sure, I just get whatever is on sale, and I bought tons of them at the dollar store. A couple of years ago they were so expensive, I use to get them at Canadian Tire, now you can find them almost everywhere. I love them because we can throw them on and then when we go inside we take them off and we are not all covered in bug spray. I think your guests will like them, so I vote for you to get them for your oot bags:)
  11. I swear by them I have been using them for my kids for a couple of years now, and my kids who are highly allergic to mosquitto bite's do not get any bites when wearing them. I put one on Liam's wrist and one on his ankle and he is bug bite free. We cottage in the summer up North and they are a godsend. When done with them put them in a baggy and you can get a few uses out of them.
  12. Our legal ceremony, which was at a beautiful little church, was a secret to everyone except us our 5 children and Everton's brother who couldn't make it to the DR. My oldest daughter was may moh, and E's brother was our best man. Here's a picture of us at our legal ceremony just hours before we left for the DR.
  13. I was in the DR 9 days before my wedding. Staying out of the sun was not an option since I have a 5 year old, we were out from morning til night. I wore nothing but strappless, and lot's of sunscreen. Remembering to sunscreen was easy since I was on mom duty and keeping my kids from being burnt was top on my list of important things to do. I was lucky that it was August when I got married so I had a good base, but I was still careful as the sun is so much stronger then it is here. I also didn't want to be to dark since I really like my white skin, and wanted to look like me, I also love the contrast in Everton's and my skin, I think it looks beautiful together.

I did this a couple of years ago. The Canadian running series , in Toronto is a great race schedule to work up to the marathon. The Running room offers some great clinics. I always had the most fun at these races, and the final marathon is such a blast, the marathon for this use to be in september. well I am off to the gym to do some cardio and weights, hmmm and maybe a steam after:)
  15. Being a true irish girl mashed potatos are my comfort food. All of the yummy recipes sound great, I have done alot of them and I am going to try the rest in the coming weeks. I thought I would share a couple of ideas that I do. When I have a crowd (no I don't mean my kids) I put my mp's in a baking dish and nicely brown in the oven, they are so good, and stay hot forever. The other thing I thought I would share is what we do with left over mp's, I fry them with salsa, my kids love them this way, they are best when they get good and crispy:)
  16. Does anyone know any of these restauraunts? I think the brewery sounds like it could be fun, what do you think? What about Sequoia on the patio for brunch?
  17. I am sorry for your loss, there is no sure way to get through grief, it is different for everyone. Just be there for your friend, no matter how old you are losing a parent is devastating.
  18. My husband also being a duel citizen, of Jamaica and Canada, wanted some Jamaican customs incorperated into the wedding. It was really important to Everton's mom that we had rum cake, well since we were getting married in the DR, we opted fro the resort cake, and we had E's mom make her infamous rum cake for us. We cut it up and wrapped pieces and used them as one of our favours. The cake was easy to transport, it was wrapped so it stayed fresh and all of our Jamaican guest appreciated the cake. We managed to have our cake and eat it too:) I don't know if this is an option for you, but I thought I would share how we managed this dilemma. Good luck~
  19. Have fun, I sent you a pm. What is your actual wedding day? I am excited for you, have a beautiful wedding.
  20. We were going to do this with our guests but most of our guests didn't want to spend that much money and be gone from the resort all day. If you are looking for an alternative excursion we did the atv excursion. We went atving on off roads and the beach, so much fun, we then went to these underwater caves to swim, very cool, we stopped for shopping, no one shopped not convenient on a atv, then we ended the trip with horseback riding. The trip was a half a day which was perfect. Every person young and old went on this excursion. We worked out a deal for 45 dollars a person with a guy on the beach (he was in front of the beach market) Everyone LOVED it, I would do this again for a large group.Make sure if you do this you wear something you don't care about, I never got the t-shirts clean again, lol. Saona Island looks beautiful and I think it would be a perfect romantic excursion, I wish Everton and I had done this trip on our own.
  21. We all just piled into taxis, it was cheap and easy.
  22. I have heard Rose hall is absolutely beautiful, old or not, I also have heard that they have done renovations. The weddings are suppose to also be beautiful. Your TA may have her own motives for talking you out of it, like she can't beat the costco price. I wouldn't giveup on the idea so soon. I had friends who have been to Jamaica 7 times, tell me this was by far their favourite resort.
  23. Maheup and all women related products are freakin expensive. I have a house full of teenage girls who don't have jobs, so imagine the money I spend. We all use different products fom makeup to tampons, so I can't even save by sharing, lol. Men don't know how cheap they have it. When we were saving for the wedding, E and I put ourselves on a budget, Everton put us both on the same budget, well that didn't fly very well, when he has to purchase more then a stick of deoderant then we will call it even, til then baby show me more money:)
