  6. If you have a Trish Mcevoy in the store you go to, they are really great at walking you through how to do it yourself. Not just making you over. My advise would be to go in with a specific look in mind and ask them how to do it: natural/sexy/dramatic/glam
  7. so sorry that you have to go through this now, at what should be a joyous time. And even though it seems like you had a small gimmer of hope of reconciling, it also seems like you have been mourning this relationship for a while now. Just remember that you are on your way to creating your own family unit. Maybe, one way of finding closure would be to visit wherever you and your family to chose to do with his remains with your new addition, and know the person that he was before, the one that you have those happy memories with, will be happy and proud of you.
  8. we basically had similar experiences with everyone else, where the people who were coming rsvped EARLY, the rest kind of didnt. And just assumed we KNEW they werent coming...I emailed the few poeple that i thought were on the fence early on, just so that we didnt have any surprises but then the nice surprise was up until we left we got late rsvps, from family that wasnt coming with gifts! It was a pleasant surprise in an rsvp envelope
  9. Hi ladies- we are finally back from our lonnnggg-ish honeymoon. I know there arent too many brides looking to get married in Greece, so my review isnt the biggest source of info...BUT if anyone is Santorini was beautiful and the weather gods really were on our side. AND our Wedding planner Helena from Yasena.com was the a godsend... everything she set up fabulous, i was happily surprised. From the beach day, that was stunning, and the fishing trip the guys went on, the spa day for me & my girls... and of course the wedding day. I kind of went with her recommendations hoping for the best, and everything was beyond my expectations. So if anyone is thinking about greece, she and her staff work on a few islands, and also athens. If anyone is thinking about honeymooning in santorini here is some info: 1- definitely fly to the island, its a 20 min flight from athens Vs a few hour boat trip. While the boat trip from athens or another island is pretty & picturesque, but not really worth it if time is an issue. And in august there is a chance that the winds on the islands get so high that they do not let any of the boats leave the ports(and these are not little ferries), sometimes for a couple of days 2- Hotel El Greco- Was excellent, its a medium sized hotel(most on the island are boutique hotels) with 2 swimming pools, which is nice on the cliff side of the island that is 20 min from the beaches. The rooms were nice, actually very nice by greece's standards. Its a 10 min walk from the center of town, but I preferred the walk on the road rather than some other hotels that can only be reached by taking 30-60 stairs(some of our freinds opted for one of these hotels for the better view, but realized it was a bad idea after a few drinks).. Although from some rooms you do have some noise from the main road. 3-Spa-The museum spa & wellness hotel(best western)- in OIA, Santorini. The spa services and the location was fabulous, they had this aromatherapy steam room thing, and a pool you can use before or after you have treatments done. 4-photos by Jonathan thrasher- Some of you may have already seen the teaser pics from Jonathan's blog, he says he will have a slideshow available soon. All of my friends cant stop talking about the pics, so if anyone has the chance to hire him GO FOR IT!!! he was really great the whole time. He even offered to take extra pics the day after the wedding, so that we would have more time get to the reception.. THANKS JONATHAN (and no we didnt do a trash the dress) 5-Selene restaurant in Fira, santorini. This was the restaurant that catered our reception. I cant say enough about the food, it was excellent!! I never thought catered food could be so good. Some of my cousins arranged to go to dinner, before the wedding, at the restaurant not realizing this was our caterer. 6-Seaside lounge on Perivolos beach(one of the black sand beaches). This was the location of our beach party, they catered lunch and provided the beach chair set up, which was also excellent. Some of our guests went back there, to have lunch and spend the day on the beach. Italy was excellent we went to sorrento for 7 days and then to the island of capri for another 5. Both locations were breathtaking... we did a lot of wine drinking and pizza eating... i'll post some of our pics soon. and of course i am so jet-lagged today, i was wide awake at 4:30 am.(I am not a morning person) Sorry this is a little long... happy planning everyone! -Fo

I thought it would be nice to ask my dad's brother to walk me, but I just found out last night that he's not coming (no reason given). I thought I'd be ok, but I got really upset when I heard that. I am definitely using a memory frame and attaching it to my bouquet. As for who's walking me down, it's still up in the air. I don't want to ask someone just to have someone, you know? I want it to be special (though nothing can be as special as your dad in my opinion). This post will probably not help you at all, just wanted to let you know that I'm having the same issue. Hopefully your mom's brother will be able to come. Let us know how it works out! So sorry to hear for your lose too, it is really recent...My mom passed away 5 years ago(actually this week) which is why i think i've been thinking about it now all of a sudden Quote: Originally Posted by akh are there any women in the family that can walk you down, it doesn't have to be a man? an aunt maybe? Not to be more of a downer but the only aunt i was really close with, has passed away also. that is why i'm really torn. I was thinking about having one of my girlfriends walk me, that is really like a sister... but then i dont want it to offend my cousin. that has already asked me if he can do it! It one thing if its the uncle I just got off the phone with the uncle in greece, it doesn't seem likely that he will make it. he has some sort of daily therapy, that has been going on since the spring... All side effects of the medicines he has been taking all these yrs.
  13. Ok I tried to Multi quote, but i wasnt working for me right now. So thanks for all your kind words ladies...I was thinking about walking with jay, but i kind of like the idea that the first time he will see me will be at the church. While hes waiting up there with his brother. I know this would be the easiest solution, but i think i'm going to think about it when i get there, and along the lines of what Glenda was saying. My mother would have wanted her brother to do it. So I'll see if he ends up coming. And so now i have to track down some bouquet frames! I leave a week from today THanks ladies
  14. soo this is something i have been thinking about a lot lately...because i'm really at a lose. I know other ladies have had similar situations. Up until recently i just thought i would walk down the aisle by myself, but considerign how emotional i've been getting at weddings lately, i may need someone there to steady me. I may have mentioned this before, but both of my parents have passed away. And had my wedding been here in NY there is an uncle that was very close with my dad that would have been the natural choice. But he is older now and sick, so he wont be making the trip. then in greece there is my mother's brother, who is also sick(he had a kidney transplant 20 yrs ago) and his health changes week to week. so he may not be able to make the 1/2 hr flight....but even if he was ok, we havent really had the best relationship.. better over the last couple of years, but not then there is my cousin...since my parents we older when they had me, i am the baby in the family, and my cousin is 30 yrs older than me....Actually he is my first cousin's husband, I grew up hanging out with them...although he has been around, not exactly parental. but even still it just feels wrong to have anyone else walk me down the aisle, almost like a betrayal to thier memory.. i know this is silly, but i can help feeling that...But in the same turn that like i said before i may just need someone next to me Sorry for the long vent... thanks for reading, i just needed to get this out. -fo

  16. we actually wont even have matching rings, but I will have the yellow gold and jay will have a the white.

I guess my point is there are some women who love the little ones at their wedding and there are some women who heart seeing only guests that can wear Manolo's. Personally I heart both the muchkins and the manolo's! ROFL.....I'm with Glenda on this one, this is all about perspective....and at the end of the day it is not a clear cut answer... i know kids that are holy terrors, and the parents couldn"t care less if they were jumping on tables and digging thier hands into the cake!!!

BUT if we had a wedding at home it would definitely adults only, I guess it depends on your family size. there are 23 kids under the age of 8 in family.. I have seen them take over the dance floor.. and not in a good way... but the destination things is different. Although I've been to a wedding in mexica that was at an adults only resort. And there were a bunch of couples that left the kids home with grandparents!!
  19. So I dont know it anyone else need this, But since we are getting married in greece we need two things from the city, a filled out marriage license and a "certificate Non-impediment"- which was a slight pain in the butt to get... I figured that since we could these 2 forms from the same office we could get them done in 1 day.. but NOoooo. when we got there the lady said we have to do one or the other that day..so we decided to do the non-impediment... so now we have to waste another day/morning going down to city hall! Well this Certificate needed to be notarized in a second building 4 blocks away.. THEN we needed to get an Apostille, In 3rd building 7 blocks back in the other direction. Thankfully we got there early and there werent that many lines, other than security check points....Now i just have to get all these things translated!!!! Sorry for the long post, and again i dont know if this helps anyone else....but i beleive if anyone gets married in Europe they need both of these forms -Fo
  20. we registered right before we had our engagement party, even though we had requests to do it sooner....But it was 8 mos before the wedding Just a thought on registering, some places like pottery barn and bloomingdales, theres more but i dont remember. they give you a 10% off for completion. Which means after the wedding date whatever is NOT purchased you can buy for yourself with the 10% discount...We registered for a couple of furniture pieces for that reason.. and hey if someone wants to buy them for us.. bonus!
