  1. Welcome! If you want a smaller setting, not a big resort, check out the Cabo Surf Hotel. We loved our wedding there!
  2. I think my favorite things are the classics: gorgeous white everyday dishes from crate & barrel, nice pots and pans and knives, linens and towels. The things I don't love as much as the "extras" that you get sucked into thinking are cool but we don't use all that much: the pizza stone, the misc gadgets, stuff like that. We did get a Dyson vacuum and I absolutely love that thing.
  3. Congratulations! You look so happy in all the pics! and so pretty!
  4. how about a Penne alla Vodka. My friend swears by this recipe: 15 Minute Penne alla Vodka serves 4 2 tablespoons unsalted butter 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper 1/2 cup vodka (here is the place to splurge on the good stuff) one 14-1/2 ounce jar tomato sauce (whatever is your favorite, nothing fancy—we use Ragu Old World Style Traditional) 1/2 cup heavy cream 1 pound penne pasta About half of a 10-ounce container of frozen peas, 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese 3 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped Set the water to boil in a stock pot. Salt and add pasta. Prepare the sauce while the pasta cooks. In medium sauce pan on low heat, melt butter. Sauté the garlic for a minute, then add crushed red pepper and vodka and bring to a boil. Simmer for one minute. Add tomato sauce and simmer for two minutes, then add heavy cream. Drain pasta well and combine with sauce and peas. Add cheese and parsley. Serve immediately. You can experiment with adding proscuitto, too (sauté it at the beginning with the butter).
  5. Make sure that you don't just register for enough gifts, but that you have a wide price range. Nobody likes to log on to a registry and see that everything is either already bought or $100+. Happy scanning!
  6. I love the dress, but you will probably be hot. But it's Mexico in July -- it's impossible to not be hot! If you love it, got for it! It's not too formal.
  7. I vote for the Palmilla or maybe this new Cabo Azul place?!? In my next life (the one when I'm a zillionaire) I'm getting married at the Palmilla too!
  8. Eli Manning, Giants have Super night on the town Quote: The Super Bowl MVP is also getting ready to tie the knot. He and his fiancee, Abby McGrew, are fixing plans to get married in April in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, where his brothers, Peyton and Cooper, will share best man duties. I wonder where?
  9. he is really easy to work with! so hard working and professional. are you getting all the photos (and the rights to them) on DVD? Maybe he could deliver in person...
  10. This could be totally off, but what about just finding a chic hotel (not in Cabo) and seeing if they can accommodate a wedding. Google led me to this, for instance: :: Kimbe - Hotel :: (Hotel Kinbe: Playa del Carmen hotels, Riviera Maya, Mexico) or this idea: Playa del Carmen, Mexico: Hotel Básico - New York Times I'm sure there are other boutique hotels thoughout Mexico that might fit what you're looking for?
  11. We loved the Cabo Surf Hotel too. Such a great vibe. And the margaritas...I would kill for one right now!
  12. so cool! May I ask how you set this up? I don't know which one was Leigh, but you have some gorgeous friends!
  13. Britt -- I understand your pricing frustration and I'm sure many Cabo brides would also agree. No other hotels come to mind but I do hope you are able to find what you're looking for. Perhaps off the beaten path a little might be good...but harder to find. What about a modern villa somewhere?
  14. Thanks, Jamy! You're right that being in DC means I'm pretty much obsessed with this stuff. My husband is a pollster so that makes it even worse! (or better? sometimes it's hard to know) I think we all like each other enough on the board to move past political differences if we have them. At least I hope so!
  15. I'm not sure who will win, but I am supporting Obama this year. I like Hillary Clinton. I read her autobiography and came away feeling impressed with her toughness (in a good way) and her commitment to women’s and children’s issues. She’s smart and savvy and her very detailed proposals display her impressive grasp on policy issues. However, I’m looking for more in a president than great policy positions. I’m unconvinced that Hillary can really move America forward. It sounds like an Obama-sponsored talking point, but I am really ready for a change. I think Obama is bold, honest, real, inspiring, visionary, fresh, and (I hope) transformative. People are aching for that kind of leader. He can bring people together to solve the real problems that we face: ending the war, getting off of oil dependency, and investing in health care and education. He inspires hope in young people and independents, and even some of my die-hard Republican friends would consider voting for him. Would they vote for Hillary? No way. Especially not against John McCain. For me, it’s a little bit of a gut feeling (I can’t help but feel hopeful deep down when I hear him give a speech) and a little bit pragmatic (I think he has a better shot at beating McCain).
  16. How many people? Hilton is gorgeous but not cheap (nothing in Cabo is). Tell us more about the kind of wedding you're wanting and we can help more! (size, food/bev preferences, etc). I don't think you could have a very big wedding for 5-7k but it all depends.
  17. I've been thinking about changing mine just so it's isn't all caps. For some reason on the old, old board (vintage BDW!) it had to be in all caps I think.
  18. Sarah! How exciting! Now, make sure to read the vendor rules! (KIDDING KIDDING) I am so proud of you for making this happen! You are an inspiration and I hope it's very successful.
  19. We had great experiences with it in Cabo, both condos and villas. Check out Casa Dolphin Sea of Cortez Los Cabos - Home (Villa) Casa Dolphin Casa Sueno Casa Sueno - San Jose Del Cabo, Cabo San Lucas Luxury Villa Rental Casa Sabatini Page 1 and we have stayed in condos in Las Mananitas and others along the beach in San Jose.
  20. Oh, and you asked for suggestions. I think I told you we had our rehearsal dinner at La Panga Antigua and IT WAS AMAZING (but pricey). There are lots of great places in San Jose - Local Eight is another good one. As for coordinators, it kinda depends on your budget. Do you want just a little help or a lot of help? Same with photogs -- there are lots of options in a range of budgets...
  21. Hi Beth! I'm so glad to see you've joined, and that you booked at the Cabo Surf! You will love it, I'm sure. We can help you with all the next steps (booking vendors, etc). Just let us know! -Janet (Karlyn's sister)
  22. okay, here's mine! (I am so procrastinating today!)
  23. I just read the above comments. Whatever interval you have it on right now seems just perfect to me.
  24. Leigh, it looks AWESOME! My dream is to one day get my pics taken by you (even though I don't have a "reason") I looked at it in Firefox on an iMac and it loaded immediately - no delay. I have a fast connection here at work. I love the huge pics, personally. And I like that there aren't too many flashy gizmo flash things -- you get right to the pics! My only teeny tiny comment is that when you hit "stop slideshow" I kinda wish the music stopped too, although I did figure out how to pause that separately... And I saw Ann and Courtney -- love those pics!
