Pre-Wedding Trip to RIU NEGRIL

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies

I have decided to head down to the Riu Negril to do some first hand research. It just so happened that girls from work had booked vacation there and I thought what better way to answer my questions than to go too!!!

If anyone wants anything cleared up send me your requests and I will do my best to find out for you!!!

Nice!!!!

One question for you, when did you book your wedding for your April departure. I am also in the TO area and was wondering what kind of price you got. I know you can reserve your actual wedding date on the Riu Wedding website, but when did you actually book with you TA?

We reserved our wedding date and then booked back in July.  You can't CONFIRM your wedding date (as in officially reserve) with the Riu until you have your booking confirmation number.  We had also gotten a pretty great group rate that we chose to take advantage of.  At time of booking, we had a price of $1536-taxes in.  We had to pay a $300/ea deposit and the entire trip was paid for by the end of October.  Since we booked with Signature Vacations, we were also able to take advantage of 1 price drop up to 60 days prior to departure. So, we lucked out pretty big (in my opinion) and got back $120/ea in early feb making our total trip $1416 all incl. taxes in.. for 7 days. :)

I should also add.... I wouldn't completely trust the RIU website when reserving your date either. They've changed the site since we did it and our date and time slot is still being shown as open even though it is not.

Thanks so much for offering this!  I would love to see pics of the walkway to the gazebo.  And if you could tell me whether there is any kind of alternate ramp to the upper level of Shadows b/c we need wheelchair access, and I would really like the semi-privacy of the upstairs vs having my reception on the main floor with everyone else!  One last thing, if you could scan or take a picture of the resort map, that would be amazing!

Also, just let us all know how much you enjoyed/hated the resort would also be helpful.

Thanks again!  Any info that you can offer is so appreciated, and enjoy your trip!

Just got back this morning from the RIU NEGRIL.

RE: WEDDINGAWAY

I will try my best answer your questions about SHADOWS, the building is open air concept, serves as the lunch buffet during the day, and the Steak house at night. As you know the dining area is two levels, with three different sets of stairs leading upstairs, no wheelchair access. I did eat there one night and they only section a small corner in the lower area of it for the "steak house" so if you did have it on the main floor it would still be quite private, aside from the fact that everyone would be sharing the salad bar buffet.

I did see a reception on the beach, held in a tent. Looked really nice but I know you have to pay extra for this.

I also have a copy of the resort map. Basically there are four U-Shaped buildings for lodging, #4 is furthest from the lobby but honestly takes about 5 minutes to walk to, The lobby is in the middle, pools located directly in front (1 pool has a swim up bar, the other a volley ball net). The other end of the resort has the breakfast/dinner buffet and the two other a la carte restaurants.

I will scan the resort map if you would like.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
