As mentioned on another thread, I thought it would be great for the Midwest Brides to get to know each other and share resources...

Please let us know your name, where you live and when and where you are getting married.

My name is Liza and my FI, Howard and I live in Milwaukee, WI.  We are currently planning our Maui wedding which will hopefully be about 20-30 guests on April 21st, 2012.  We have just booked our venue and are just starting to get into the smaller details.

A little more about me...

I am an only child.

When I get married, my first and last names will rhyme (I am taking his).

I love horrible reality tv and have been addicted to bridalplasty since it aired.  I find it so horrific that I can't stop watching.

I work as the Corporate Training Director for a fine dining restaurant group based in Milwaukee.

Looking forward to meeting some more local brides:)

Ha! Love it! Sorry i didn't see this sooner...

My name is Erica and my FI is Al. We live in Downers Grove, IL, a Chicago-suburb, but our townhouse is on the market right now. We'll definitely be staying in the same area when we move. IF we ever get an offer. We've onlly been on the market two weeks at this point.

We are getting married in St. Thomas on April 3, 2012. We'll be on a cruise with 20-30 friends and family. Some family members are planning on just joining us in St. Thomas, which we found out at Christmas parties!

About me:

I am also an only child, Liza! But I have almost 100 cousins, since my parents both came from massive Catholic families of 8+ kids.

My FI's last name is a variation of "Cruise" so we're trying to find jokes about our "Cruise"-Cruise Wedding :-)

I work for a non-profit medical society, we plan educational and networking events for spine surgeons.

We have two cats and they are our babies. I hated cats my entire life until they moved in with FI and I fell in love with them. This pic is our new kitten, Mara, and FI.

Looking forward to hearing from more midwest peeps!

Hey ladies! So excited about this thread!  My name is Tyra and FI's name is William. FI's first name is my last name without the "s"- I always joke that he should take my last name so he can be "William Williams" lol, I would laugh everyday at that!...I have 2 brothers, my sister passed away about 15 years ago. We're getting married April 30, 2011 in Negril, Jamaica with about 48 guest so far. I live in a south suburb of Chicago, IL & actually work in downtown Chicago as a nurse disability specialist. And Schmizer, I too am totally addicted to all shows "reality", lol. Drives FI crazy! Our DVR constantly has like 1% available space because of all my reality & bridal shows!

Hi ladies,  I am born and raised in Chicago!  But we live in the south suburbs.  I work as a Medical Technologist in the Microbiology Lab at a hospital in Chicago.  We are getting married in Negril on July 30, 2011.  I am excited to meet fellow Chi-Town brides!  Are any of you guys doing a budoir shoot in Chicago?  Hey Queen Diva I see you live in the south suburbs and you are a Negril bride too!!!!

It's nice to meet ya, ladies!

Erica- Your kitty is sooo cute!  We live in a lower flat of an old home and I have been dying to get a pet.  I figure if I get my landlord liquored up enough one night... maybe!  Otherwise I guess I will have to wait until we buy a house.

St. Thomas is going to be a blast.  I have never been to the Caribbean, but was researching St. Lucia before we decided on Maui.  I think a cruise wedding would be so much fun!  Are you being given a hard time about how long your engagement is?  Howard and my parents are both driving us crazy, but we are paying for our own wedding and have some friends that need the time to save in order to afford to go.

Tyra- I know what you mean about the DVR.  FI and I just got into a tiff today about that.  My best friend who is getting married in May doesn't have DVR right now so I tape and save all my favs for her for when we get together.  He got mad today because there was only 3% left in the DVR:)  Have you checked out the website, "The Plunge"?  It's a site kinda like this but with GQ style articles for men.  They have an article about "wedding porn" and my FI jokes to everyone that I am addicted to all things wedding "wedding porn" since getting engaged.  So he has to suffer through "Say yes to the dress", "bridalplasty", and "bridezillas".  Poor guy!

My last name will be Leu (pronounced Loo)- So Liza Leu, which was my nickname as a child.  This Xmas, my Mom took to calling me Liza Leu Who after watching the new version of the Grinch.  I hope that doesn't stick.  I think William Williams is hilarious!

Sorord1- I spend a ton of time in Chicago and am interested in great BD photographers in the area as well...  Milwaukee doesn't really seem to have anyone with portfolios that I like.  Let me know if you find out anything!

@sorord1- yes I'm a Negril bride too & I see that you're getting married just 3 months after me! Soooo excited! I would love to do a boudoir shoot, but I need to get the rest of this weight off & I've just twisted my knee and on crutches :( I have an MRI scheduled for January 3rd and may need surgery. So, depending on what I can lose from diet alone by the end of March, we'll see!

Erica your kitty is cute! I would love to have a few kitties, but daughter is severely allergic & has asthma :( I told FI that we should get me a pomeranian to carry in a little purple doggie bag, and he can get a pug & carry it in a little blue doggie bag & we can walk down the street hand in hand...yeah I'm sure he liked that vision- he just looked at me.

@ the future Liza Leu, I love your name! So cute! Yes, I look at those very same shows, although I haven't looked at my Bridalplasty recordings yet. Getting a lil tired of all the re-runs though. I also like Four Weddings & My Fair Wedding. I look at Platinum Weddings sometimes, but the predictability & fakeness gets on my nerves alot.

I wish all of you girls the best!  I hope we can help each other and share ideas.  I too am addicted to Four Weddings and My Fair Wedding.  My FI is over those shows as well but my seven year old loves to watch them with me! LOL!  I also need to lose at least 7-10 pounds so i totally understand Queen Diva.  I also wish you a speedy recovery and pray you dont need surgery!!!!

I'm doing a BD or maybe pre-BD thing this spring and I'm super nervous. I'm using Vavoom Pinups in the city. They do kind of a retro style and got a good review from another friend. Two of my friends are also going to go at the same time. If it goes well, I'll use those pics for a BD book, or maybe next year's birthday present...

Thanks about the kitty, she insane but super cute :-)

We haven't been given a very hard time by anyone so far. Inviting everyone to a DW isn't common in our families (lots of elopments), so most people love the idea and like having the notice to save up or do a payment plan. A few people have kind of laughed when they mentioned getting our STD magnet and said, "well there's no way I'm going to THAT." It takes a bit of practice to just smile and sweetly say "well I hope you can make it to the welcome home party, we'd love to see you!"

As a budget-oriented girl, I love that the Platinum Weddings show is predictable and fake!! :-)  I want a purse dog too, I totally understand, but FI wants a German Shepherd. I'll probably let him win that one eventually.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
