What are you doing for hair and makeup in the DR?

Recommended Posts

Hi :)

What are you guys doing for hair and makeup? Are you using the hotel's services? Are you doing it yourself? Is one of your guests or someone in you bridal party doing it? Is anyone going to a salon outside the hotel?

To those of you who already got married and used the hotel's salon, how was it?

I'm so up in the air about this.  I'm getting married at Majestic Elegance this June.  I'm planning on having my FSIL do most of my make-up but I'm undecided about my hair.  I've heard great things about the ME spa/salon, but I'm still very apprehensive about this!  I have super thick hair, for any formal event where I've had my hair done it always falls out and ends up a mess because it's so heavy.  I'm putting this worry out of my head though for now!  Good luck

I think you will be fine. DR is known for hair. I was concerned about letting them do my hair also and they really put qualified people in the salons. I didn't use them locally, but my hair dresser is from DR so she came and did my hair. I got my hair done a few days later at my salon at PPR and I think she  did a good job on my hair that I would have been fine if she did it, but like you, i was scared so i had my hair dresser come.

I am definitely going to the resort salon to get my hair done. There isn't anyone coming to my wedding that is good with doing hair and I include myself in that category, lol. I'm pretty confident they will do a good job...I read reviews and saw pictures of other brides at my resort (Grand Palladium in Punta Cana) and they all looked amazing.

As for make-up, this I will do on my own - I have sensitive skin and I break out easily so I don't want them using their make-up as most make-up artists do. I plan to go to MAC here in my hometown a couple weeks before, have someone give me a lesson on wedding make-up and then I'll duplicate it down there (and probably practice a few times before I go too wink.gif).

I am having the Majestic Colonial salon do my hair.  I just don't know if I have to put in my extensions first, we'll see.  I heard great things about their stylists except that do not speak english.  So be sure to bring photos of what you would like and extra bobby pins and hair spray.  My sister-in-law had hers done but the pins were dark and she is very blond.  Also just in case I don't like it or want to fix it I'll have extra supplies.

I heard the make up the do is terrible, with really dark foundation, bold colours and the dreaded foundation line under your chin.  I went to Sephora and had a make up artist select the right products and show me how apply it.  I made sure to buy blotting sheets and a primer base for shine and staying power.  If you add extra powder during the day to hide shine it will just bulk up and look cakey after awhile.

I will be sure to practice a few times here first.

Hi,

My six bridesmaids and I had our hair done by the stylists at the Majestic Colonial in November. They did the most beautiful job! They went outside and cut fresh orchids right off of the tree outside and put them in everyone's hair. Everyone just sat down in the chair and they just started styling one after the next. I showed them a picture but everyone else just gave them a quick idea of what they wanted or didn't say anything at all. All of us were absolutely thrilled.

We did not have our make up done by them.

Good luck!!

I have recently been thinking about this as well. I have been looking for styles I like.... anyone recommend up, down, or half/half for DR weather?

I was hoping my friend who does hair could come and do mine, but it looks like she won't be able to make it. I will have no choice but to use the resort services. Hopefully they do a good job! I will be doing my own makeup (as of now) since I am pretty simple and don't like over-the-top looks. I am going to try and have my friend do a trial make-up and hair just to get an idea and maybe take pics to show the resort people. I am assuming these people do wedding hair all the time though! (or so I hope)

I will be getting my hair done by the resort - I have heard great things about the hair stylist....as long as you bring pictures of what you want!  I will be doing the same as richarsd and going to MAC for a couple makeup lessons - or maybe sephora, I read that suggestions from AmyGirls planning thread and thought it was a great way to get good makeup in your style.  Usually, they will give you the lessons for free and help you match products to your skintone etc.  I might even do my bridesmaids makeup as 2 of them have asked about getting it done at the resort and I have heard to steer clear of the makeup application down there!

Since I've already been to Paradisus Punta Cana, I know the area, I will be doing my hair outside of the resort in one of the plazas, The spa in the resort charges $90+ for a hair style where I pay $50 max in NY, the outside hair salons in PC charge $25, which is great!, I already went saw their work and showed them what I was looking for.

In regards to my makeup, I'm getting a professional artist from the capital to come and do everyone's makeup, she charges $80 for brides, $50 for bridesmaids plus transportation. Makeup means alot to me, it always reflects in pictures, I think I would be stressed doing it myself.... I need to relax in the moments leading up to the ceremony.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
