Hi Lauren,

I'm getting married at the Riu Palace on April 28, 2011... we're just missing each other!  How excited are you?!?!

So far the wedding coordinators have been wonderful at responding in a timely fashion, so that is awesome.  Have you found the same?

Are you getting married on the beach, terrace, or in the gazebo?

Oh, and congratulations!

Katie

I'm getting married at the San Jose Gazebo and having the reception at the Mexican restaurant and renting out the terrace for a private reception. I am super excited and can't believe how fast time is going.

Where are you having the ceremony and reception?

The email responds have been okay sometimes i have to send my email twice but Monse is good at always answering my questions and helping me get what i want. I have even been in touch with the reverend about the ceremony and he's great to work with.

Are you doing a symbolic or legal ceremony? We're doing symbolic.

Haha this is great!  Looks like I'll be the guinea pig everyone will be relying on for last minute tips! haha  Yvonn

I'm doing a legal ceremony so there is a bit more work involved.  I was relieved to learn that the bloodwork gets done right at the resort, but there is still all the translating and paperwork to deal with!  Oh well, it will all be worth it.

I'm getting married at the gazebo (the Palace gazebo... is that the one you're referring to Lauren, or are you getting married at the Santa Fe gazebo?).  I'm also holding a private dinner reception at the Mexican restaurant as well!

Yvonne, now that you've confirmed the day, you can dive into the details and share with us what you're planning to do too :)

Are you bringing favors with you for your guests?  If so, what are you bringing?  Are you bringing your own decor too?

I'm doing a starfish and diamond theme and my colours are purpley-blue, silver and white, so I ordered 400 mini starfish to scatter on the dinner tables and am going to spray paint half of them silver and leave the other half natural.  I'm also going to scatter purpley-blue diamond confettis things (they look like tiny diamonds) in with the starfish.  For place seatings, I'm ordering purpler-blue finger starfish and I'm going to tie nametags on to each one using silver ribbon (I wasn't planning on doing assigned seating, but our numbers are now too high to not).  For favors, I think I am going to order purpley-blue shotglasses with silver writing on them that says Cabo and the day of our wedding, with the picture of a starfish... but I'm not 100% on the favors.

Finally, do you know if there will be any floral centerpieces or candles on the tables at the Mexican restaurant?  I was told that the decor provided will simply consist of what is always out on the tables in the Mexican restaurant, but I don't know what that is!

Have a great TGIF!

You know, i saw pics of someone else who had their wedding at the Steakhouse and there was no room for centerpieces nor did they have any room for them. If anything i think the restaurant would have tiny candles on the table but i was told that the Mexican Terrace has the best view of all the restaurants so the guests will be more taken by the view then centerpieces so I'm not doing centerpieces. Waste of money is how i see it. I was going to bring my own centerpieces but what for, they'll take up too much room.

As for the gazebo the Palace has 2 gazebos, one that's more private and one that is located by the spa. The one i picked is the more private one which is called the San Jose Gazebo.

As for favors i was thinking of having mugs made by on EBay seller who does them for really cheap and they're cute. Also for favors i have raffia fans that my programs will be attached to and i have little maracas that will be escort cards for seating. I bought them in plain wood and am painting them white and writing everyone's name on them and table number with blue marker and tying a blue bow to them. They're super cute! But time consuming!

My color is Royal Blue! I really don't have a theme per say but i guess it's beachy, tropical, mexicany. lol

O and i too bought mini starfish, 500 of them, i'll be attaching some to my programs!

I wanted to do OOT bags but it would be too expensive and i'm on a budget. lol

So ladies what time are you getting married??? My ceremony will start at 6. Kinda late i guess, but the sun will be setting and the sky will look gorgeous. We will have a cocktail hour from 7-8 and then the reception from 8-11. And after 11 probably hit the clubs or something.I think we'll be introduced during the cocktail hour and do our first dance there that way after dinner it's all about partying! O yea! lol

This is sooo exciting . . . . . .

OMG I am in LOVE with your maraca idea... it will be so worth the time and effort in the end.  If I didn’t have the starfish idea, I’d be asking if I could copy you! Even so, I’m still tempted haha. You’ll have to post pics when you’re done because you’ll inspire a lot of brides with that one I think.  That’ll be great.  Will you be able to fit them in your suitcase?!

Thanks for letting me know about the centerpieces.  I never intended to bring anything either, I was just wondering what/if there’d be anything to expect on the tables.  Bringing centerpieces would be really difficult for packing purposes too... I hear ya about budgetary restrictions with the OOT bags.  I’d love to do them, but it ain’t gonna happen!  I would love to find out if there is a way to get water taxi vouchers though.  If I can’t figure it out, then I’ll probably just try to organize a day for everyone to go to Lovers Beach and then I’ll just pay the taxi man for everyone.  When I thought the wedding was going to be small, I wanted to pay for our guests to come on a catamaran with us, but now there are too many so it’d blow the budget and I’ve had to give up that one!

Royal blue will look beautiful with the turquoise waters.  I’m sure the groomsmen are happy they aren’t being stuck in pink either ;)  Do you have a pic of your BM dresses?  What is your fiancé wearing?

My ceremony is at 5pm and I’m going to do the dinner at 8pm as well so that we can get some sunset photos in too.  I originally wanted bubbles but now I want sparklers, so I want to see if we can do the cocktail hour outside so we can do the sparklers there.  I think it would make for some cool pictures too.

I think we’re on the same page with the partying!  We have a lot of friends coming and we all love to party, and so does my family.  That is one of the reasons why we picked Riu Palace over Dreams... apparently Dreams is quiet after 9pm.

It feels so far away, but our weddings will be here before we know it!  My friends and family have a countdown going on my facebook wall haha.  Everyday someone has to post how many days and has to rhyme (266... bring on the margarita mix) lol.

I love the rhyming, it's SUPER CUTE! lol

As for my maracas, they're actually pretty small so they wont take up that much room. I'll try and upload some pics of the ones i already have painted.

I just ordered one BM dress this week to see how it will look on them and to see if i like it. It was shipped today so i should be getting it within the next week or two. So excited.  Here's a link to the dress   http://www.dhgate.com/2009-hot-sale-a-line-strapless-tea-length/p-ff8080812571eff6012577ee68ae0854.html

My fiance is going to be wearing an all white suit. What's yours going to be wearing? Have you picked your BM dresses yet?

Have you sent your invites out yet? Have you checked prices for booking? I just sent my STD out yesterday and am planning on sending invites out in Oct or Nov.  and having everyone book by March.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
