Marathons, 1/2s, and 10Ks oh my!

Recommended Posts

I know we're all super busy in our lives and then we throw planning a DW on top of it all. I relieve stress by running! My worst of days are turned around by a good run. Who else is a runner who has an upcoming race? What are your training plans? How do you fit in running to your busy day? What running sites and/or gear do you live by? I thought it'd be fun to start a thread where we can give each other support for our love (or loathing) of running:)

I'll start. I'm running the Chicago Marathon on 10/10/10. It'll be my 3rd full marathon, having run New York and Dallas. I have a few shorter races sprinkled in there before Chi. I'm using a custom McMillan training plan and LOVING it. I run whenever I can, but am best before the sun comes up...like 5am runs. I would marry my foam roller if Greyson hadn't already askedwink.gif

GREAT thread! I totally use running as my outlet. I can't do one of my long runs when I'm super upset/stressed, but I kick out plenty of fast paced runs!!! I fit my working out in by doing it first thing. I'm at the gym around 3:30-4am daily, and then some days I workout twice. I live by my ipod and running skirt! :)

Good luck in Chicago!!! I'm running the Vegas marathon in December. It will be my 6th. It's my prep for BOSTON in April!!!! I may do the Big Sur 1/2 in November and I'm doing an Olympic tri in Malibu in September. My fiance is a power lifter so we go well together, we keep each other encouraged and keep each other going. I don't by the excuse that there's no time to workout, this was my most recent facebook status:
"There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when circumstance permit. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results." - Art Turock

Wow sorry to post so long. I'm slightly obsessed with running, hehe. And lately, with lifting.

I did 14 yesterday, which was my longest distance since my knee scope in January, and felt like a champ! Woo hoo! My training plan is only having me do 3-4 days of running per week, with 2 cross-training days, and I think it's one that works for my legs. What training plans are you ladies using?

so glad i found this thread here! :)

I only just started running this past february with the Couch To 5K program.  did my first 5k race in april and my first 10K race in may!  I haven't don't too much running so far this summer because it's been sooooo hot and humid here and I just can't handle getting up to run before work.  The heatwave here has broken for now at least and only yesterday I realized I needed something to motivate me and a new big goal to work towards....... so I think I've decided that I want to train for my first 1/2 marathon!  I researched and found a 12 week program with 3-4 runs/week that just might fit into my schedule.  My target race is Oct 24, 2010.  Training is to commence August 9!!  I think I'm going to work on the training for a few weeks and if all is going well, I'll officially register!

Since this will be my 6th marathon I have tweaked my plan enough to find what works for me. I only run 3 times per week, sometimes 4, even with my heavy training. One run is a long run, one is intervals and one is a tempo run. I don't do any easy/light runs. I'm working on getting my time around 3:30 for Boston so I'm doing a lot of speed workouts. I also lift a lot of weighs, but that will have to change in the month before the marathon.

can't believe I just found this thread! I LOVE running! There is no better way to start or end the day. I run about 25-30 miles a week. I am very interested in training for a triathlon and have been looking into training programs that I've been finding online.

As much as I enjoy running, I really want to challenge myself in new ways. Any suggestions or websites about tri's would be greatly appreciated!

I'll try to find the one I used as a guideline. I did an Olympic tri last year and LOVED it! Such a challenge! Just make sure to do "brick" workouts (training 2 of the discipline's back to back) to get you ready for race day. Good luck!

Thanks, that would be awesome!! Would love to check out your program especially since it worked for you and it's not some random outline I find online. :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
