Playlists & DJs

Recommended Posts

Those of you that are having/had a DJ, do/did you give him a list of songs to play? I thought that the DJ would just know what to play, right? Well I got a form to fill out from my WC for the DJ and on it says to attach a list of songs to play. Is the list songs that I have to hear or suggestions or am I picking out all the music?

Also, what is the difference in your music selections for your cocktail hour and dinner? Dinner I want classic music like Frank Sinatra, but I have no idea for cocktail hour but I want to stay in the same classical theme as the dinner music. Any suggestions?

I'm hiring a DJ on my own, not using hotel DJ. He provided me with a sample of his music (lot of stuff) but told me if I want to give him a play list he would do that too! My suggestion is to give him an idea of the type of music your crowd like and do like. As a back up have some of your favorites on your ipod, ready to go!!!

I guess I could just tell the DJ the type of music I want for the dinner and reception and hope for the best. That makes me worry though.

I would have loved to hire a steel drum player or a guitarist or something for the cocktail hour, but its not in the budget.

We're having a steel drum player for the ceremony/ cocktail hour and DJ for the reception.

We created a playlist that was about 5 pages long. The first page had the main songs- entrance, first dance, bride& father, groom & mother, cake cutting. Whenever I heard a song I liked or remembered I would put it on the list. I created differerent categories like mellow music for dinner and different genres of dance for all ages. If music is important to you and your guests, be as specific as possible.

I guess I could come up with some songs I like to give the DJ a feel for the type of music we want, but I am so horrible at picking songs and putting playlists together.

I think a DJ is worth it. We only have 16 people coming, so only 18 of us and I can't wait. I LOVE to dance and I can't imagine my wedding reception without music. But I don't want to fiddle around with an ipod all night or worry it won't work or something.

I just came back from a wedding at a Dreams in Dominican, and my understanding is that you have to provide them with the list of music and/or have an ipod or CD's available if you want to hear specific music.

You cant assume that they will have any/all of the music that you want, so it is always better to be prepared with an alternate!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
