Would you think this is weird? *update #17 (wedding 10/02/09)

As some of you may know, we had to cancel our Bermuda wedding due to wedding planner drama. We are now having our wedding here at home, and have booked an amazing venue for the ceremony and reception. Our reception will be held in the cocktail room of the venue, which seats about 100-125 guests. We are only having 80 people total. We couldn't use the ballroom because it seats 250 and we would look lost in there. So, because we are in the cocktail room (which is still huge) the tables are smaller and seat anywhere from 2-6 people at each. Because there are so many tables, we aren't doing table numbers and place cards. Does that seem weird? Also, we are doing our group pics before the ceremony, and just the 2 of us after. We were going to be announced in halfway through the cocktail hour so we don't miss it (its my favorite part of a wedding!) We are not having the bridal party announced since they will already be in the room. We are also not doing a "first dance" because we are awful dancers, and don't like the idea of everyone watching us looking silly. We are not doing any toasts or speeches or the garter and bouquet toss. Are people going to think my wedding sucks? We basically want a big fun party, minus any traditional wedding stuff. If you went to a wedding like this, would you be disappointed?

no way! a wedding is your day to do what-ever-the-hell-you-want!

I've been to wedding before, and had such a great time that I didn't even realise they didn't do certain traditional elements. Not until the next day when mum asked who caught the bouquet! It was such a blast - and really reflected the couple.

I think its awful when the wedding doesn't reflect the couple. Some friends of ours are very very laid back couple, been engageged for 5 years, bbq and beers friends, and at the request of parents had a really really formal wedding - and they just looked uncomfortable! and it made the guests uncomfortable too.

I think there is nothing better at a wedding than seeing the bride and groom have an absolute blast!

Actually I think you have inspired me to cut some things too! I never even thought to cutting the first dance. we like dancing together, but are the WORST dancers in the world - we would much rather have a quietintimate moment with each other dancing then having everyone staring! :)

You go girl!

Who knows where I'll stop now! No cake! :)

I feel that if this is who you and your FI are, meaning your personality is carefree and non traditional, your guest know this and will enjoy the relaxed feeling of it. From the sounds of your plans it sounds like it will be loads of fun. Your day, your wedding, your way!

Sounds like you're doing everything because that's how you and your FI want it - and that's how EVERY wedding should be!! Who cares if there are no toasts, garter toss, bouquet toss etc etc! If you don't want them done, then they don't belong in your wedding! All that matters is you are celebrating with your loved ones and everyone is having a blast - which is exactly how it's going to go! Congrats!

Well, we actually have 2 wedding songs. The first is Bob Marley "Is this Love." They will be playing it when we walk back up the aisle together after the ceremony. The second is Adele "Make you Feel my Love." We are going to have the DJ start playing it, and announce that the bride and groom would like everyone to join in as they dance to their wedding song. This way everyone is already on the dance floor and basically already up dancing. That way we aren't out there alone with everyone gawking at us. I hate the thought of that. We are still doing the cake and cake cutting. If anyone knows me well, they know that I am all about the cake at a wedding! My thought is that I don't want the party (and dancing) to stop, and I don't ant all those things breaking up the night. I just didn't know how well that would go over, since so many people expect those "wedding" things to happen.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
