Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

SusieQ... hehe I can laugh about the luggage now, but the night before the wedding I was like... what do we DO?? Thank goodness the upgrades weren't sold out at that point! I'm guessing you'll be packing light!

Courtney, the WC booked us a place at the buffet for the rehearsal dinner. She said it was not really allowed because the buffet is usually first come first serve, but she was able to do it. During our 10 days there we saw a few tables reserved here and there, but it seemed pretty rare. I think if you wanted one of the a la cart restaurants, you could *try* to book a big group reservation together, but the a la cartes get pretty full quickly. Also, some guests may not have extra dinners at the a la cartes outside of your wedding dinner itself because that counts as one. The other option would be to go off the resort for the rehearsal dinner if it's in your budget. There are several really nice restaurants in Akumal that would be perfect.

Great review Janet! I love that you gave everything a good grade!

I'm curious to know what everyone else has planned for their big day? Here's what I have so far:

Ceremony at the Tulum Gazebo

Cocktail hour somewhere (lobby bar maybe?)

Dinner at Porto Fino (Italian al a carte)

Poolside cocktail reception with DJ and lots of dancing!

Probably finish at the disco since we won't be an early-to-bed type group!

I love the idea of a welcome dinner and we are also thinking of doing a stag & stagette one night too (NOT the night before the wedding of course!).

KRama you're wedding is similar to mine.

Ceremony at Tulum Gazebo @ 3pm

Then there is a toast and group pictures until 4

From 4-5:30 more pictures for the bridal party and some time to freshen up for guests.

6 pm dinner at porto fino

8 pm cocktail hour (2 hours really) by the jaquzzi's and we'll cut the cake there

Then we'll move on to the Hacienda or go to bed.

We have little kiddies everywhere so I'm not sure what the party mood will be like.

Actually I was gonna leave it up to the girls :-) But here's some of the things
I was thinking...

-Shopping in Playa Del Carman
-Going on an excursion maybe swim with the dolphins or something the ladies would love.
- Getting massages at the spa
- Planning a scavenger hunt

Probably a pair a couple things up like massage then scavenger hunt...etc.

As for the guys my fiancee mentioned...
- Going deep sea fishing
- Renting Seado's
- Golfing

Gonna kinda just go with it...not gonna be too worried about making a big deal about it...lol! I totally have the laid back Mexican attitude already :-)

I never thought of a "welcome dinner" ... you guys are BRILLIANT!!! It would be great if they could accomodate us at the buffet, that way I'm not making all my guests use up another of their à-la-carte options. Gonna definitely look into that.

So, Joss, we are almost "date twins"? How close are we? What is your exact wedding day?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
