Real vs. Fake flowers- your opinions?

Recommended Posts

It's good to know that people could not tell your flowers were fake - I was worried about this. I was thinking about real, but now I am leaning toward fake ones. I am getting right back on our cruise ship after the ceremony, so I would not be able to take real ones with me, so maybe faux is the way to go!

so glad that there are other girls in this dilemma too.

I'm getting married in Fiji - and the frangapani is their main flower - which I LOVE, however last year my sister used it as the whole theme for her wedding...

So, that leaves me with paying triple for orchids, or getting fake flowers.

I was leaning towards fake, but then people were looking at me like im a freak for not using beautiful fresh flowers sad.gif

There are lots of great ideas here. After reading the difficulties that some people have had with receiving their artificial flowers, though, I am leaning toward real flowers at the site. I will need to do more research but given the fact that you are using flowers that come from the area and don't need to be shipped, I am assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that the cost would be cheaper than anything I would buy in my hometown. I don't really like the idea of relying on someone to send my flowers to me in time for the wedding...Makes a bit nervous to think about that...

the problem I am having is that I have 8 bridesmaids and 2 jr bridesmaids, and it says that the bouquets at the resort are $120 each!!!!!!! WHAT? I should have thought about this before having this many bridesmaids!!! oh well it is too late for that now but I think it will be cheaper to get silk here are home and have each one be responsible for bringing it down with them. I really love fresh flowers though...

If I get them silk can I still get real for my bouquet? mine is free with the package, but I am just wondering how I can get it to match and not look weird if theirs are fake and mine are real... what do you think?

I don't think yours needs to match theirs necessarily. If you make theirs with tropical flowers in your colors it should look fine. Yours will be a bit different but that's ok since you're the bride. Good luck and be happy you got that many people to be willing to go! I'm on my second maid of honor and am still skeptical that i'll even have one come wedding day.

I was originally going to go with real flowers, but since I've researched real touch flowers, I'm gonna go with them. They're cheaper, and when I get back I can sell them on the "for sale" forum and help out someone else!

Flowers aren't SUPER important to me, so I don't want to spend a fortune on them.

I totally understand. We've decided to take the free real bridal bouquet and bout from the resort and get artificial flowers for the other bouquets/bouts/corsages we'll need. No private reception so no other flowers needed. If we bought real flowers at the resort it'd cost us $256 MINIMUM for everything we need!!! I just can't wrap my brain around that when they'll die. I think I can get really nice looking fake ones (with real touch flowers) for around $100. And everybody can keep them if they want. If not, whatever - we still come out ahead!

yup, I agree. This is my second marriage, so I know how silly it was to spend money on frivolous items the first time around. I plan on selling my shoes, flowers, centerpieces, and possibly my dress and my FG dress as well on this forum when I get back. I'm all about saving money!!!!! My first dress sits under the bed in a box for the last ten years. that's so silly!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
