The woman at Helene's tried to get me to be her dress up doll and kept putting veils on me even though I told her I wasn't wearing one! I did fall in love with a dress there, but thought I should see more.

Our last stop was LA Collection and I tried on a few more, but then tried on the dress I loved from Helene's and knew it was the one! And LAC was $115 cheaper. The girls were super nice there and no pushy at all. And they actually accepted that I didn't want a veil, and brought me flower options instead.

Has anyone booked their DJ for the social yet?? I have no idea how to pick one or how early to book them!

That is great you found your dress! do you have any pics of it?

I have started peeking around online, but have not gone to a store yet, my best friend bought hers from Stella's, they are pretty popular, I'll do the rounds downtown as well!

As for the DJ, I'm not sure how far you should book it, I can ask my friend, she used DJ (Platinum Productions) – 269-5535, they were good, she was happy with them! I'll probably go with them as well. Our social is not until next October, so other than booking the hall, I have not done anything else yet.

Are you going to the traditional late snack with meats, cheese and bread? We were thinking of ordering a bunch of pizza instead. I have been to a couple of socials who have went that route. It was a nice change!

For those doing a social, pm me your email and I can send you some templates for planning a social, it was really helpful when I did my best friends social last year!!

We are having a Halloween social at Dakota CC Oct 30 2010!!!

I have not done any offical dress shopping yet, we are planning to get married in Punta Cana Feb 2011, so I have some time, I can even secure my resort until the rates come out in Jan. But I think we have narrowed it down to Barcelo Bavaro Palaca Deluxe, they have 5 resorts in one, so it gives out guests the option to stay at one that works for their budget!!

My best friend went to Stella's to get her dress, they were okay there, pretty busy..have you ladies heard anything about them? I will certainly do the downtown circit though! There are so many stores!!

we bought our shoes for my best friends wedding at LA Collection, they were nice there! Best price for shoes too!

Hi all,
For my dress I did exactly as everyone has mentioned. We went to all the stores downtown and had the best experiences at LA Collection, The Bay and Theresa's. I ended up buying mine from Theresa's.

For the social, we are having ours November 21 at the St. Norbert Community Center. We just booked the DJ last week, we too went with Platinum Productions b/c the hall is affiliated with them so we get a bit of a deal. They still had a fair amount of openings I think, so I would say a few months before the social would be good to book?

My fiance was talking about the pizza idea, b/c we could have gotten a deal through friends, but I was a bit stubborn on that as I wanted the same ol traditional social food! I was willing to compromise and do both, but he didn't like that idea! Go for the pizzas though if it is something you want, it will make the night stand out from the typical social!

Hi girls! I haven't been able to post my dress, it says the link is invalid, even when I tried using Photobucket (its a picture from the Venus website if that matters). But I'll keep working on it. I wasn't planning to buy one that day, so I didn't have a camera with me at the time. Maybe I'll go back and try it on again! (Like I need an excuse, I'm dying to see it again!!)

As for social food, we are torn. My mom mentioned the Pizza idea and I loved it (especially since we have a Dominos hook-up), but my FI and his family really want traditional food. So we'll see what happens closer to February!

Jenn&Kraig thanks for the templates, they were a great start!!

Cheers!

Hey Ladies,

I had an awesome first start to looking for a dress at LA collection. Ask for Shelley if you go there, she is totally honest and so professional. I'm heading down to David's Bridal in Fargo to see what they have to offer.

Jenn+Kraig - i hear you about being tempted by online dresses. After physically trying on dresses, and finding my size varied +/- 2 sizes either side of my street size, i'll stick to real life stuff. It's nice you've got lots of time until your wedding.

As for OOT bags ladies, just wanted to let you know I bought some awesome tote bags at dollarama (blue and brown - our colors!) for $2 each. They had loads of different colors, so if you're in the market for some cheap/nice bags, check it out. For the bestman / MOH, i bought nicer real canvas totes at Chapters for 75% off (about $6). I'd post pics, but i don't know how yet.

Joss!
We totally have the same bags. Do they have a little blue button to hook them closed? Our colors are kiwi green, aqua and brown, so they worked perfectly for us too!
Great idea on finding some different ones for the bridal party. I'm going to keep that in mind.

I guess this pizza thing is becomming quite popular lol!! My fiance absolulty loves pizza, so we will probably go that route!

That is awesome you found a dress! I want to start shopping, but I feel its too soon? Feb 2011 is like a over a year away still, plus..like any bride, I have a good 10 lbs I want to shed first! lol

St. Norbert is a nice hall, I have been to a social there before! How is your prize search going?

I think we are going to spend cash on some decent prizes, our whole idea with the social was that any money left over from the expenses in putting it on, we were going to give to our friends and family planning to attend our DW, it will help out a little towards their expense hopefully!

Hey Jenn!

Hope those templates help you out, I know it helped us plan my best friends social, and wil help us with ours as well. you're welcome!

Thats the tough thing with weddings I guess, pleasing both sides of the family, unless they are paying, I think you should be able to do it your way! easier said than done I suppose! A Dominos hook up would be great though!! Better than the usual 222-2222!

Which dress is yours from the venus site? I'll check it out!!

I was just thinking about the oot bags, I heard Dollarama and Michael's are good places to go.

As for filling them, what are you guys using? I have heard people doing an eng to spanish phase book, apparently you can pring one online at this address:

Print a Free Pocket-Sized Phrase Booklet | Spanish - Espaol

individual packaged tums, pepto or immodium are not a bad idea, another girl posted this link for immodium packats

IMODIUM A-D 2 PACK 36 COUNT

I have also read that looking on e-bay for bulk coupons for little sunscreen bottles, I haven't checked it out yet, so I'm not sure if its mostly for the ladies south of the border, or if there are coupons for us Canucks as well!

bottled water, flip flops, little signature bottle of local alcohol, are some thoer ideas.

It all depends how much you want to spend I guess! Plus you have to factor in the space it will take up in your luggage, thats a crappy part!

How do you guys plan on giving everyone their oot bag? For my group we will all more than likely be flying on the same charter, so we will be arriving at the same time. So it doesnt give me time to have them set up in their rooms.

Hey Ladies - I got my dress from Stella's. I did the same - went to about 5 different salons. I didnt choose Stellas for any specific reason - just they had a dress I fell in love with! I do love that mirror on the ceiling though so you can see the back of your dress. I bought it back in March and it still hasn't come in but they did say it can take up ro 6 months.

Our social is in 4.5 weeks!! Ahhh. Prizes are slowly coming together - it is just ticket sales that have us worried!! Everyone seems to want to buy at last minute. Still so much to do - but it always comes together! I have helped with enough of them to know that!!

I know someone that did order the pizza - they ended up getting lots of gift certs as well that they could use in their silent auction which is awesome!!

I LOVE that there are so many peggers on here!! Enjoy the weather this week - it is finally summer!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
