Hi Sabrina,

The first thing I did was contact the wedding coordinator by email to see if they had the dates we had in mind available. I did wait about a week for a response, but luckily they had both days I requested available so we got to pick and choose! They asked for details of what kind of wedding we wanted, time of wedding, etc. and they put the date and time on hold. The day will actually be confirmed once we book and are able to send them our travel manifest.

I also noticed that you were from Kitchener, ON. Did you find a wedding photographer yet? I am talking to a photographer from Kitchener right now who's great and is offering a really good deal for destination weddings. Let me know if I can help with anything else! Happy planning!

Thanks Rowena!

Could you send me the WC email address so I can contact ASAP.

Ok this might be a stupid question but does the Kitchener photographer have contacts there or are you flying him out? Could you send me the contact info please.

So your getting married around the same time that i would like to......what did you end up paying? I'm tried to find the cheapest week for everyone.

Hi, I'm a little confused - the wedding date is not officially confirmed until you book your hotel room?
At any point before that do you leave a deposit for the wedding date?

thx!

I have no clue...I'm just trying to understand how all this works right now. I'm going to try and call the WC today and my travel agent is off until Tuesday. You must have to put some sort of deposit down to gaurantee your date.....at least you would think so.

On a nother note.....does anyone know why we need to have a blood test when we get there? It's $180USpp which seems a little high to me.

Thx

Sabrina

you have to have the blood tests if you are doing the legal ceremony. You don't need it if you do a symbolic ceremony. Most resorts have a doctor come to your room, take your blood, then they have to transport it to the lab where they run their tests. It seems steep but it's probably reasonable.. just think of what they'd charge for that in the US!

What I got from my TA was that you actually just pay for the wedding upon arrival at the resort. There was no deposit or anything that we had to put down, just getting our room and flight booked and the manifest faxed to the hotel and they held our date and time!

brandynd, is there a set time you need to have the room booked by? Because for summer 2010 the prices are really high now and will go down in the spring so ideally I would want to book in the springtime to save some $$$

can I ask, what rate did you get for Jan 2010? Thanks

Well, they had said they would hold our date and time for two months until we got everything booked. We actually got a total steal for our trip though. We went through Orbitz and printed off a copy of their going rate for the day (which was $900 pp. for our 8 night stay) and took it into our TA. They did price match, and all we had to put down for a deposit on the trip was the cost of the flight. I'd HIGHLY advise you to regularly check those wholesale sights, because most reputable TA's will match their rates, and you're going to end up saving yourself alot of money. Just a little fun fact....I'm all about saving money on the flight and room in favor of putting it towards other details! :) Hope that helps you out some!

Brandy
From what I understood (as the english in the emails isn't always the greatest) you have up to two months BEFORE your wedding to confirm the date. I just confirmed with Gabriela last week and our date had been on hold since May.

My only suggestion to any of you newbies is patience. They are slow to respond but I have had no troubles so far. Gabriela has been great. Just be patient. They are super busy and if you aren't getting married until next summer, there is nothing to rush for. Put your date on hold, then shop around for prices.

From what I have been reading it seems that it's so hard to get a hold of the WC I might just be better off phoning her (buy a calling card).
Any tips on the best steps to start planning would be really helpful as I don't know anyone close to me that has planned a destination wedding.

Can someone send me the email contacts too please.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Sabrina

Hi Sabrina,
I used destinationweddings.com to book our wedding. Our travel agent was able to contact the resort and make sure our wedding date was available. If you want any information, let me know. cool.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
