Please Help-I can't decide on a resort!

Recommended Posts

Hello Ladies!

I hope I'm not asking a silly question, but how did you all decide on a resort? I am having a really difficult time choosing! I just got back from the Valentin with my fiance (where were got engaged!), and I would LOVE to have my wedding there, but we will have several children as guests, so it's out of the question, unfortunately.

Here is what I'm hoping for my summer 2010 wedding:

Budget friendly for my guests

Ability to accommodate up to 75 guests

Kid-friendly

Nothing too cheap or cheesy (we were very spoiled at the Valentin!)

I've been looking at the Iberostars, but I've been kind of overwhelmed by them, since there are so many, and I haven't quite figured out the class system. I'm loving Azul Beach, but I think it will be too expensive for guests.

I'd LOVE any feedback you could give me-any suggestions for other hotels, pictures, etc. I'd love any info on pricing and packages-I would appreciate it so much!

Thanks!

Cait

I'm with Katie - we also booked the RIU Palace Riveria Maya - their wedding package included dinner for 50 people and the total package of it was only $1500! That's what sold me :)

Good Luck! Once you find a resort it gets much eaiser :)

Do you happen to know what a 1 week stay is going to cost your guests? I'm also trying to decide on a resort but am worried about getting a place that is too expensive for my guests.

We actually got our rates through a group travel agent. If you look at our website (in my siggy) and go to the "Travel Information" section, all of the rates are listed there depending on the number of nights they plan on staying.

Cait, it took me about 6 months to decide where to get married lol! Keep in mind that I am a reasearch queen, so don't panic! I basically made a list of what the most important features in a resort were to me and rated them. For example: food, beach, entertainment, adults only or family friendly, etc. That allowed me to cross a lot off options off my list. From there I contacted each hotel and got wedding package prices. Then I spoke to a TA to get details from a "professionals" view point.

Cait, also keep in mind that I've NEVER traveled anywhere!! So to me this was a really big and overwhelming task, but I don't think it needs to be that way for everyone! Also keep in mind that no matter how much you are putting your guests needs first.....there will always be someone that will complain and make you want to pull your hair out. Just smile and keep going about your plans lol.

Good luck!

Hi! We were suppose to have our wedding at Azul Beach in May but cancelled last minute because of Swine Flu. Although it is kinda pricey its a BEAUTIFUL resort!! However they have a max of 50 guests so you may have too many, but I would look into Azul Sensatori. Its a new resort in the same general area as Azul Beach. They can accommodate larger groups and everyone who got married there seems to have had a great time. There is a pretty long thread on it :) Good Luck!!!!

It can be a very overwhelming task however I would go with Nikki07's suggestion and start with a list. Put down things you like and things you don't. For example I knew that I didn't want to have it at an All- Inclusive resort because I didn't want my guest to feel like they had to stay there and most of their packages were only worth it if your wedding guest also stayed at the resort. This alone narrowed my search down by more than half. Lists are your friends. I would say start there. Good Luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
