Registry - To do or not to do?

Recommended Posts

I think it's a good idea to register so it helps people know what to get you and so you dont get 3 of the same thing. I registered and still got duplicate gifts so it really helps. If you feel funny, just do a small registry :o) Good luck!

I debated with this too...After reading many of the threads on this topic, I decided to register. I am not advertising it, but when people ask, I am able to tell them. Not everyone you invite will be abe to attend, but they may still want to send a gift. Better to get something you want, then something random. Bed, Bath, and Beyond is a great place to register, b/c they always send out 20% off coupons.

Also, someone will probably want to throw you a shower. It is just easier to be registered. I did not do a big registry, (no china) but it is there.

for me and my fiancee, marriage is not just about romance, but also about a promise, agreement and a legality. what i mean is if we both want it to be legal, we do not see why we have to do it twice and spend double the money especially when it cost £10k for 1 wedding (for the style i want). as i said before, we are brought up in a traditional 'up tight' manner and believe marriage comes before living together and having children. but hey, it is different for different people and i am sorry if i sounded harsh.

I think you are talking about a different kind of registering. We are talking about a gift registry at a specific store. You go to the store and pick out things you want or need for your home to make it easier for your guests to choose a gift for you. It's very common to do this, at least in the U.S., and most guests appreciate it because they don't have to spend time wondering what to get you. Some of us are wondering if we should do a registry since our guests are already spending so much money just to get to the wedding. We don't want them to think we expect a gift from them, too.

I want to do a registry as we already have a house & everything we need, so we really do not want tonnes of stuff with nowhere to put it. It is quite uncommon to do this over here (Ireland/England), so I know NO ONE will ask where we are registered!! I don't know how to let people know without sounding like we expect gifts! I definitely don't want to put it on the invitation and I think telling everyone by WOM is a bit like 'asking' too....any thoughts??

We decided to register as well. Several people had asked us about, that were not able to make it to the wedding. Rather than receive random stuff that we don't need/can't return we thought it would be easier to let others know what we could use. We have been living together for 3 yrs, so its not like we are starting from scratch. We also made it clear that if people were coming to the wedding, we do NOT want them to buy us gifts.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
