Honestly, from what I've seen from Sarah's books - the quality looks impressive!! I wouldn't knock it just yet

You have to save each page as a separate file. When you are all done with them, you can send them as a zip file to Sharedink.
The program was not hard to use- and as you know I'm not computer savvy! Don't you remember my frantic questions to you when I was trying to send my mp3 song files to Juan? lol It of course, like any program I'm sure, took some time to get used to, but it really wasn't hard.
There's a great tutorial to get you started, and it's really easy to make templates so you can just reuse them for different pages.

I think what Tammy was trying to say is that each page must be saved as 1 file. Long story, but when I made my first book, I saved about 20 pages as one file- you can't export them that way unless you buy the really expensive version of the program. So, I had to re-save each page into it's own individual file- major PITA. Just make sure that you make a page, save it, then make another page, save it, etc...
You can get multiple pictures on the page using the Lumapix program. You can either click like 2,6,8 or however many pics you want on that particular page and have the program "autocollage" it for you- which often looks good, or you can size the picture however you want. You can put as many pics on one page as you want. I've done some with just 1, I've done some with like 12...That's through FotoFusion though, I don't know how to do multiple pics with the SharedInk template.
Does that make sense?

You know Jonathan, I get really tired of seeing you butt into threads that absolutely don't concern you. I personally take offense to that comment because I have made several of these books and do find them to be of good quality, especially for the price. Of course I know that I can spend 1-2k and have a photographer make a great book for me. Juan has gorgeous books, as well as Leigh that I had the option of purchasing from my various photo sessions with them. But, I chose to make my own for a couple of reasons. 1) I enjoy doing my own projects. I feel that I do a good job and have somewhat of an eye for design. It also provides a great sense of accomplishment to have something that is an heirloom that I made myself. You yourself complimented me on my first book. I enjoy making photobooks. 2) Price. The professional books that you and other photographers make are great, but a little spendy for some of us. Now, I have no problem spending big money for my pictures, there's no need to debate that. But, when I can make something that looks great and showcases my pictures beautifully for less than 10% of what a photographer would charge- what's not to love?!?

Seriously, I'm sure Jessalyn is aware that she can get a book from you. Is it necessary to slam the quality of something that the rest of us (including Jessalyn) take pride in?

Well, I wasn't going to say anything because I thought I might embarass you... lol j/k! You figured it out all on your own in the end!! lol


Ok, that's what I kind of thought. Thanks for the help - I'm starting to feel like I can do this!!! But don't think this is the end of my questions, there'll be a lot more!

Courtney ~ In photoshop you create the pages using multiple layers. So you could have one page with 12 layers for example and then you flatten the page and it makes one layer. Sharedink requires that you upload each page separately. Hope this doesn't confuse you. I have photoshop and have never used the software that Sarah bought. It took a while to learn how photoshop works...i'm still learning, but it is great software (and expensive too).

 

Jonathan ~ I know your album is going to be great (of my wedding pictures). I'm hoping to make my own album with my engagement photos from Hawaii and my Boudoir photos. I hope I have enough time to have the BD book made before we leave. I chose to buy the photo CD from Leigh instead of having her make me an album because I wanted all the pictures and the ability to reproduce them if I wish. And frankly, I can't afford to buy both right now. So, I chose to save some $ and make my own book. I'm sure it will turn out nicely and if it's not as nice a professional one that is fine too. Afterall, only Tony and I will see it. ...With all that said, I'm really looking forward to seeing your album of our wedding. I know it will be beautiful!

Jonathan, I think what a professional photographer might take out of this equation is the opportunity for the bride to create memories while she puts the album together. From what I've seen from the women on this forum, creativity and wedding smarts abound. I've no doubt that Sarah's album will be absolutely gorgeous. And she'll have the self satisfaction of knowing she created it herself, as will her guests. I think it's an incredibly beautiful and thoughtful idea.

 

It's relatively easy to plunk down several thousand dollars for a pro to do the work; it's so meaningful to take the time and effort to put it together yourself.

I found a company in Canada photoinpress.ca you may want to check them out . I plan to use them for my books. I have been finding that ordering from the US is a big pain in the you know what. I ordered some personalized M&M's (such a cute idea by the way) and it was going to be $60 for shipping. Luckily I have a friend in the states that I can ship them to. Sometimes with the exchange, duty, etc it is not worth it to deal with the US. I found a Canadian company for favours and also personalized items. Let me know if you need any help!

Thanks Rita, I might take you up on that. When shipping to Canada, we always get dinged big time with the shipping/customs costs - sometimes it's unbelievable how much they charge!!!
