April 2010 Brides

michele, you have to post pictures of your invites once you get them! i'd say september is definitely doable.. still gives them about 7 months and you can always send email reminders and call to follow up from there! and i second christina's question.. who are you using for photography? picking my photog has been my favorite part so far!

i love the payment plans too... i think it lessens the blow when the payments are spread out over a period of time!

christina, you couldn't be more right about the people that matter just being you and fi! i don't think that people on the outside always agree, but first and foremost it is YOUR wedding.. you're not doing this for them, right?

jeremy and i had an incident a few weeks ago and the mother of his five-year-old daughter has decided to not let her come with us to the wedding. she says that people in the caribbean hate americans (whathuh.gif) and she doesn't want her missing any days of first grade (!!!!). i was actually more upset about it than he was, but we are just going to make it special for her on our legal day instead.

i've read the thread about what people have learned from planning a DW and almost everyone says that the people who matter will be there and the people who don't won't... but sometimes it surprises you who those people end up being!

Erin,

I'm so sorry that someone else's ignorance is standing in the way of you FI not being able to have his daughter be apart of the your wedding celebration. It seems like she is punishing her daughter based only one her bitterness, which is so unfair to her child sad.gif I truly hope that she reevaluates her decision, and that in the end she allows his daughter to join you!!

I keep trying to tell myself that the only people that NEED to be there are the two of us, but honestly when I think that my family and friends are making the choice not to be there it really breaks my heart. I would totally understand if it wasn't feasible for them to make it, but when they start throwing out other excuses it really bothers me. Primarily because I know that if the shoe were on the other foot I would do what is necessary to be there to support my friends... But I honestly feel that people have their own priorities in life, and I just know what to expect from them in the future. More importantly, it will show me how much effort I should put into those relationships.

Each day, I am hoping that in the end I will be pleasantly surprised and most of my guests will end up making it to our wedding.

Hi ringlis!!

I did a few site visits to resorts in Jamaica, and honestly I think your decision is going to based on what exactly your needs are going to be. For example, AI vs. Non- AI, big resort vs. small private hotel, beach vs. gazebo vs. cliffs, and kid friendly vs. adults only...

I personally wasn't too impressed by the RIU Mobay, but there are several other brides that absolutely loved how their weddings turned out. I chose to stay in Montego Bay because I didn't want my guests to have to sit on a bus for 1.5 hrs after just getting off the plane. But you should check out the Jamaica forum for more info about the various resorts in Jamaica.

Also, if you PM me your e-mail address I will be more than happy to share the few photos that I took of some of the resorts I visited.

Not only that, the fewer people who decide to come the more $$$ I can keep in my pocket.

jerseykitten, who did you book for photography?? A local or are you flying someone in from home?
Yesterday my sister gave me 30 different excuses why she can't come...more like won't come...since my parents have offered to pay for her...she's 35 years old...I told my mom to take back the offer and she is no longer invited....but you are right, it's about us getting married and the people who want to be there will.

Erin I'm sorry about your FI's ex being such a beyatch. people get off on messing with other people's happiness. It's totally rude.

I booked a local photographer...I liked the idea of having someone that knows the resort and the area...I'm trying to stick with the "whatever is easiest" philosophy.

Ringlis-
I chose to stay closer to Montego Bay for the same reason - I didn't want to have to travel too far to the resort after landing. I figure we can do an excursion to Negril/Dunns River etc.

wow, everyone is a jamaica bride!

michele, i'm just waiting for people to start booking for something similar to happen to me. my parents are actually paying for all immediate family members on both sides just so money can't be an excuse. now it's a matter of schedules so we'll see how that goes! i will have my fingers crossed that my future stepdaughter is the only one who can't make it. (or in her case, isn't allowed... grrrr)

i think we picked our honeymoon resort last night too! is anyone else staying at one place and moving to another for their honeymoon? we thought it would be strange to try and be romantic at the same place where we hung out with our fam for the week before. looks like the paradisus palma real will be where we go for a few extra days of rest and relaxation!

We haven't really decided what we want to do for our honeymoon, but I'm sure that we will want a change of scenery after the wedding. The only thing now is to decide whether we want to move to another resort in Negril or Ochi, or fly to another location altogether. Decisions, decisions...

We are thinking of going to one of the couple resorts in Jamaica for our honeymoon the second week by ourselves. We went to Couples Ocho Rios a few years ago and it was wonderful - very small, quite, romantic and amazing service/food. We actually really wanted to get married there but once we looked into it they don't have any rooms without king beds so because we have quite a few single family members and friends it just didn't make sense.

Anyways, I think we may change our wedding location to the ROR or RIU Negril as oppose to RMB. I really can't wait to actually have this booked - I have been driving myself crazy over picking the perfect resort!! I'll feel so much better when it's booked!

My next step is doing up my invitations, I want to get them out by end of month I think. Am planning on doing them myself - we'll see how that goes.....

We're staying at the same place the whole time - getting there Thursday, Wedding is Saturday, Staying till the following Saturday. Our guests are all coming for a long weekend, so we will have the place to ourselves by Monday/Tuesday at the latest. The idea of having to pack up again and go somewhere is not at all appealing to me.

getting that resort booked is the BEST feeling!! good luck trying to decide! also, for the invitations, there is no way i would have been able to do it without this site. the templates, ideas and pictures from all of the other members made it sooo much easier though!

tell me about it!! that was my hesitation at first, but at least when we move on to another resort we won't have all of the wedding related things! those are definitely being sent home with everyone else!

that's also how i felt! the resort we're getting married at is very family-oriented, lots of social things going on, etc. and we wanted a few days in a more romantic environment! we'll probably end up being bored after the 1st day, but picking the HM resort was one thing that FI was really into so i was pumped about that!

i have ALMOST cut out all of my invitations! little by little these things are getting done. i swear one of these days i'll actually send them out!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
