Who Should Pay for the Day Passes?

Recommended Posts

We are going to pay for the two guests that need a day pass. Check with your resort. At ours the day of the wedding the day pass is cheaper. Its $75 regular and for the weddign they are cutting us a deal its only $50.

I just mean that maybe people that don't travel as much would go into it thinking that since it's all technically the "same" resort that they have access to all of it.

So, I was just wondering if people were aware that not all sections were created equal.

IMHO this is what I would do. I would make sure you specify either on your website or in a newsletter that if guests stay at the more economic friendly resort they will not permitted into the higher priced resort where all the guests will be. Most people want to stay where everyone else is staying. Along with this I would pass the word around through friends and family (especially if you have a bridal party) to casually let other guests know that if they don't stay at your resort it is going to end up costing you a day pass plus the cost of the reception. If I heard that it would give me more incentive to stay at the resort b/c I would feel terrible knowing the bride and groom had to tack on yet another expense. This way you don't look rude for mentioning it. However, in the end I would pay for whoever's day pass it is that needs to be purchased. While I know these things are crazy expensive I can't help but feel that its a tad tacky to ask someone to pay to come to your wedding. It just doesn't feel right to me. But that's just my opinion.

I know what your'e getting at--- it's like with our resort.

The resort we've been planning on having the wedding at is the Iberostar Paraiso Complex. It has 5 resorts on it's property. The Del Mar and one other that I can't remember the name of, don't have full access to every area of the resort. The Lindo and Maya have access to all of the resorts, except the new Grand which is adults only. We'll book the wedding at the Lindo and ask our guests to stay there. The information on our website mentions that by staying at the Lindo, guests have full access to the restaurants and facilities of the lower priced resorts. We've also included information on the cost of the day passes if guests should choose to stay at a completely different resort chain.

We've also included information on the benefits of booking with our travel agent---- such as being able to make payments on their travel instead of having to pay a lump sum up front and also getting discounts on some resort offerings (spa and golf), and also that by booking through her as part of our room block, they are then "tied" to our wedding party and get higher priority than other guests with the resort.

Hopefully, this will get through to them that we've really done everything we can to make this affordable and easy for them- but should they choose to stay elsewhere, they've now been told what to expect for costs to attend.

I think, like Glenda said, if you present the information in a manner that let's them assume they are going to be responsible for the costs if they stay elsewhere, as well as putting the costs on your website and spreading the word by mouth, hopefully that will cut down on how many people stay elsewhere so it's not too large of an amount to pick up the cost of day passes for those who truly need them.

Thank you for your honest answers.

Here is my issue. Aren't I already asking them to pay to come to my wedding? I mean, they do have to pay for their trip, right?

But, I was all for paying their night passes, which are more than the day passes. It is my wedding and if they are staying at the less expensive resort, that probably means they cant spend a lot of money.

We are going to make it very clear on our website and the TA is going to make is clear the difference between the diff. resorts and what will and will not be included if they stay at the other one.

I think technically we should pay for them...but, I just don't know.

I gave my opinion earlier but I didn't have time to explain why...

If I was going to a wedding I am much more likely to try and find a smaller, less expensive hotel. Of course I want to spend time with everyone but an AI doesn't usually work for my food (I'm a veg) and it therefore doesn't really work for my budget (I end up paying in the AI price and then spending $$ outside for food). I think that people are going to be spending a lot to come be with you on your special day. These are people who love you and want to come out there but may not be able to afford the more expensive part of the resort.

However I think you should DEFINITELY try and negotiate a lower daypass rate for the wedding. Or maybe even get the resort to waive the day pass for guests who are staying at one of the related places - just for the wedding day of course. If you can get the price brought down then maybe it'll be easier for everyone - no matter who ends up paying for the day passes.

Maybe you should talk it over with your family? I think a lot of people's opinions on these types of things comes from different cultures. The truth is what is acceptable to some people may be not be to another. Talk to your parents/close friends and I think you can figure out what right for you :)

It's what you're comfortable with doing. If I could pay for my guest's daypasses, I would. Hell, Sarah (SASSYGIRL) is paying for her guests accomodation (right?)... I couldn't do that!! lol. I don't know, I just consider the day pass to be included in the accomodation, maybe that makes me a sleazeball, I don't know. If there are only a few people that stay outside the resort, then I will... but if I go announcing it, then I could run myself into debt paying for all of the day passes!!

I'm just repeating myself over and over again, so I'll stop posting! lol. If you can afford it, then awesome... if not, then maybe you can post something on your website like Maria mentioned so your guests are aware.

What do you mean about cultures? You think one culture says they pay for themselves over one saying we pay for it?

My mom says we should pay for them, FI's family says they should pay for their own....And, FI's sister and brother-in-law are probably the only ones that would not stay where we are.

See...that's another thing. If I tell everyone its cool to stay at one of the other 2 places, then I am going to end up paying for 30 day passes. Ya, we don't have that kind of money!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
