Baker for ROR reccomendations please

Recommended Posts

I have seen some of the cakes from the weddings at RIU OR and I have to say they look a little sad and cheesy.

Does anyone have a good reccomendation for a cake vendor?

My Fiancee is a chef and this is a big deal to him (me too).

I don't need anything super elaborate, my style can be pretty simple and classic but the cake cannot look like i baked it myself.

thanks!

Rebecca

I was going to say, practically word for word, what Mo said. Please utilize the search function, and also be careful with your wording. BDW is a great tool to use to plan your wedding, but I can tell you from past experience, that people aren't going to want to help someone who has called past brides cheesy.

I realize that probably wasn't your intent, to offend people. It's part of communicating online, we have to be very careful about the words that we use since the delivery is lost in the typing.

I've seen their cakes and they look good to me. Take it from people who are married, the cake is like the 17th thing you'll notice at your wedding, meaning it's not that big of a deal in comparison to the important stuff. (believe it or not some people don't even get around to eating it)

In any case if it is a high priority for you then as the others said if you do some searching you'll find more info on alternate bakers.

FYI - you could have just said their cakes aren't your style. When you hunt down your perfect cake and someone calls it sad and cheesy maybe you'll get it.

thank you scott-pierre for the advice I will look there!

everyone else, you are so concerned with me offending other brides that you didn't even think that you might have offended me by only posting something negative and not helpful. the reason the cake is important to me (and maybe not as much to others) is that my fiancee is a chef/baker/restaurant owner and he feels strongly about food quality. I am also NOT the only person to criticize the baking skills of the ROR so please don't reprimand me. also, I did use the search function and did not find what I was looking for...I guess I must be stupid and not know how to "search" properly.

I don't think anyone was trying to offend you, they were trying to help you. This forum is full of brides that all have their own opinions, and we definitely encourage that. But when you label things negatively, as you did, it puts a bad taste in peoples mouths. They were just trying to ask you to be more careful with your wording if you wanted to get help, so let's try to keep it nice. I understand your need for a high quality cake, but to most people it's just not that important. So perhaps they weren't helpful b/c most people just use the resort cake. (I did too and honestly, I can barely remember what it looked like it meant so little to us.) Since it means so much to you, I would speak to your WC at the resort and see if they can direct you to someone that can make something more along the lines that you want. Also, perhaps the resort could customize the cake to what you want.

Oh and to be clear, your original post sad that the cakes were sad and cheesy, not anything about the "baking skills". So by acting like you were attacked for stating an opinion on the baking skills is just not true since that wasn't what was in the original post.

I hope you find what you are looking for though! I would def start with the WC.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
