We watched our wedding video last night... we like to watch platinum weddings on sundays and we alwyas think they all spend mega bucks on ambiance and at the end it looks good... but it is still a rectangular ballroom. No matter how much they spend they can't toutch Playa Fiesta!!! Yay for us that found it and booked it!
I totally agree! And what a headache it must be to plan a wedding like that! Do you worry about every detail all day long? It's amazing to look back and think about everything that came together- things that I didn't even think about that I'm sure Lindsay worked hard to accomplish (timing of events, coordiation of vendors, etc).

Ditto! So, we haven't gotten married yet, but already I am sooooo glad we went with Lindsay and PF! It has been so much less stressful. We get a lot of questions, mainly from family, along the lines of "why are you getting married all the way in Mexico" - clearly disregarding the fact the DC is just as far from the west coast and HI as Mexico! But the main reason we chose a DW (besides the obvious, sun, rum, and fun!) was that if we got married here I would totally be a bridezilla stressing about everything! Lindsay is awesome!

and Mel - your tables were gorgeous! We were going to do runners, then I decided to do woven ribbon mats in the center (they are hard to explain), but I'm kind of lusting after the runners after seeing your pics! The green looks great against the white. We are doing fuchsia, plum and a little bit of navy - yum!

on a kind of unrelated note - Mel, Kate, or any other past PF brides, how did you handle tipping at the end of the night? My etiquette is a bit rusty about that - do you tip everyone? Did you tip Lindsay? I'm not sure how that works... thanks! Sam

I second you on the question about gratuities Sam. From what I have read, gratuities are not expected but are fine to give for extra-special service. I don't completely know if that is correct, and would love to know how others handled the situation. Since the vendors are all contracted through Lindsay I don't know how we would even get a gratuity to them or if it is even necessary or customary?! Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Hi girls, we handled the tipping the next day for the wedding. Your servers will be there the whole week. There are some really great servers in the background too, so what we did was pooled money with our guests that wanted to tip- they'll probably ask you about it- and gave it to Lindsay to divi up. We did give additionally to Aldo and Charlie because they did so much extra for us! It is not expected, so any way you want to do it is great.

I tipped Lindsay too- but no one else. She handles that.

HaHa, I had the same question about tipping! :)

Don't know if this helps, but I looked in my massive wedding planning book and it said: You should tip vendors who are not business owners. For example, if your photographer or DJ owns their own business you do not have to tip but if they are an employee of the business you should.

This does not make a ton of sense to me :-P but thought I would share anyways. I was planning on tipping Lindsay, the woman who does my hair and makeup, Aldo and anyone else who I feel goes above and beyond.

Kate...are the servers and bartenders already tipped in the 15% service charge attached to all food and beverage items or am I interpretting this inncorrectly?

Also did you all tip the lady who did your makeup/hair? The book said you don't have to tip them if they come to you but I feel like I should probably tip her. If you did, did you tip for both the trial run and the day of or just the day of?

As always, appreciate all of the help and guidance!!!

I did tip the hair lady on the day of.... our hair was paid in the final bill so we just gave a tip.

We did tip the servers, they do get tipped out so it was nothing major... and like I said we just threw it all in the pot (tip from us, our parents, and fam/friends that asked about it) and gave it to Lindsay to give out on the last day. A little here and there is nice too. Whatever goes. They don't expect it!

I think I finally got that little sad feeling when your wedding it totally over. I'm trying to fight it though! :)

OK, tipping: Bryan and a couple of his friends tipped Aldo and the bartenders a few different nights. Their tips were pretty generous, I think. I tipped Cristi and her assistant for hair and makeup. I tipped the day of only. They did a good job. We also tipped the mani/pedi people. I think Kate's idea of pooling tips and giving it to Lindsay is a great idea. The whole tipping thing is confusing, I agree. Basically, you do pay tip with your bill (15%), but you can tip more. :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
