Legal Paperwork? Freaking!

Hah! That could very well be. I had asked her that question, and she just said that maybe it was information for a different state, but that she's been doing weddings since 1995 blah blah blah. Down from the ledge (thank you girls!!!!!!) but I still think it sounds a little shady!

Ylan, I think mosty birth certificates have this one them anyway (don't they?). I think you shouldn't worry - Maye has done a million weddings in Mexico and I think that someone on this sight would have alerted everyone if the weddings she arranged weren't valid. Don't worry - leave that to Maye - that's what you're paying her for! This is for you:

I am also getting the blood work done Wednesday for the wedding Friday. I am not quite sure all documents needed since my wedding is not until next year. Good luck with the details, just remember people down there are pretty relaxed when it comes to documents. I am sure Maye probably works with the same people who handle the paperwork.

It is Mexico. It's one of those things. I am confident that you won't have any problems with the judge. However, if it feels like you're too close to the wedding to be addressing this - go there, get married, go on your honeymoon, and then go to the Justic of the Peace in your hometown when you get home and be done with it. That will give you peace of mind while still allowing you and your FI to feel as if you were officially married in Cabo. Maye's fee isn't any different if you are/aren't married there so that doesn't matter.

You could even get married before you leave if you want (Tammy - didn't you do that and still totally felt like Cabo was your real wedding day?).

We've decided to get married in Cabo - we're doing everything according to the info that we have. However, to reduce hassle, when we get back from our honeymoon, we're going to the court house just to make it easier to deal with the DMV, etc. It works for us.

Wow! That sounds like my worst nightmare and I totally see why you are so freaked out, but there is sound advice coming in from this board so stick with it! On a related subject can anyone give me any info on contacts for this kind of legal stuff from Canada? We live near Toronto and though my fiance is Canadian I am British so I realize this may cause some difficultys! Any advice? Thanks!

I believe that you have to submit the legal Mexican paperwork back to a US agency to officially be legally married in Mexico. We most likely will not do that here and, instead, opt for the courthouse. My company's attornies are trying to find someone in our network of friends who has some experience in this space. I'll let you know if I find out anything more.
