Why are they doing this!!! We now have to try to move our destination elsewhere - in a matter of days. It took weeks to put this wedding together and now i have to slap something else together!huh.gif life is unfair!!! I hope not to many other brides are going through this! This is a nightmare!
The hotel said they will refund our deposit but I signed a contract with my photographer and paid a stinkin lot of money up front that was non-refundable!!! This sucks!
Oh, that really does suck! I'm so sorry. frown.gif

I don't know if this is an option for you but my guests' flight/hotel packages were also cancelled by Air Transat and Air Canada. My TA got both Tour Operators to reinstate my guests' resort reservation and refund the air so they can rebook on US carriers. It's costing everyone an extra $47 plus transfer from the airport to the hotel. If your guests booked as a group, maybe you can do something like that so you can keep your dates and not lose your deposits?

this is from the dreams/amresorts site (amresorts include zoetry, dreams, secrets, and sunscape resorts)! it only applies to new bookings, but might help convince a guest who panicked and canceled to rebook? and will definitely be great to tell any guests of weddings later this year who are still on the fence:

Flu Free Guarantee

If a guest contracts Influenza A - H1N1 while staying with us, their next three vacations will be free of charge. In order to qualify, the guest must have reserved their stay between May 8, 2009 and June 30, 2009 for travel taking place between May 8, 2009 and December 20, 2009. New reservations only.

There are many strands of H1N1, therefore it must be qualified as Influenza A - H1N1. The guest must provide positive blood results in addition to the certification of the doctor who performed the test in order to redeem the three free return stays.

The three return stays are valid for the original traveler plus one companion.

One complimentary stay per year over the same travel period as the original stay. Blackout dates and restrictions apply. Based on availability. Redeemed stays will be awarded for the same number of nights and in the same room category as the original stay.

In order to redeem, guests should contact customercare@amresorts.com.

Hi everyone! I just got back from Cancun for my wedding planning a week ago. While you see people wearing masks in Mexico City airport or on the plane, things are totally calm and peaceful in Cancun. The weather and the water are just amazingly beautiful down there; with decreasing number of tourists, we actually felt like having our own private beach! So there, a positive thing to look at!

Our wedding is on 20 June and honestly we´re not worried AT ALL. I still need to calm down a few overseas guests, but everything will just work out fine! =P

This is so true. There are almost 30 cases here in CT, most about 10 minutes from my town and I'm pretty sure people are still flying to the US and CT. Its a shame the media didn't have anything better to do than get people all worked up over this. I feel so badly for those of you who have had to deal with this. Hopefully guests are starting to come around.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
