Advice on a Wedding Dress??

Recommended Posts

So.. I went and tried on dresses this weekend.. I didn't really get the "YES this is the one" reaction - but I was told by a lot of people that doesn't really happen for everyone. I did however feel GREAT about 2 of them... The problem with them is that they are fairly long.. and one does have a looong train.. the lady said that the train could be shortened quite a bit.. the other one I like is long as well but doesn't have an enormous train or anything.. I am fine with it being bussled anyway - but my MOH's opinion was that they are both gorgeous and look great, but she was concerned that the length would have me unhappy when I am there.. Has anyone had a longer dress that had problems at allhuh.gif Any advice?! TIA :)

Hey there!

My dress had a fairly large train. I opted to keep the train and just leave it bussled the entire wedding. I was pretty happy with the outcome and I don't regret not wearing the train down for the wedding. Do whatever you're most comfortable with! Here are some pics of my dress with and without the bussle to help you get an idea:

I tried on like 60 some dresses, and each place I went I would have 1 or 2 favorites. There was one that I really liked for months but then decided to go on one more appt and foudn "the one" tears and all.

I did think maybe I am just not that girl that gets all googly over a dress, but as I kept going I did eventually find one that makes me feeling amazing each time I look at it.

As far as the train goes, keep it if you want it, there are no rules when it comes to a DW, that is the great part, you can do whatever you want to.

Wow! Your dress is amazing!! I like it a lot :) That makes me feel a lot better that it didn't bother you or anything because the one I was looking at was about as long.. and I mean having it bussled is not a big deal - You'd bussle it at a non destination wedding most of the day anyways :) Did you know this was "The One"?? Thanks for sharing your pics btw!!

That's awesome that you got the "tears and all" :) I hear ya though.. tried on dress upon dress.. it was getting frustrating!! Then.. I was like..I think one of these 2 is it (they are very similar)! I think I was just expecting a bigger reaction just cuz some people find "THE one" but oh well we're all different hey!!! Thanks for the post!

I think I was more worried about the length.. I wasn't at first.. but then my MOH started putting ideas in my head.. like maybe that was a bad choice.. but now that I can see others that have went with longer ones and felt comfortable.. I think it should be good :)

don't worry.. bustle it...

the most important thing IMO is that it's not super heavy material.. something lightweight so you don't over heat in mexico and that the bustle isn't weighing you down all nite...

and if for me.. my bustle was fine in Mexico, at my AHR.. we bearly got in the hall, FI stepped on my dress.. and the bustle broke out... so I danced all night holding my dress where it should have been bustled.. and really.. it didn't bother me at all... I could even two-step no problem, just holding his hand and my dress all in the same hand.. lol

Aw thanks!! blush2.gif I agree, other than the ceremony (generally), most girls keep their dresses bussled anyhow! After the first time I tried this dress on, I knew it was the one I wanted, but I didn't get emotional or anything (neither did my mom who was there with me at the time). It was just logical for me to get it. The color looked great on my skin tone, the cut completely flattered my body, and it was simple yet elegant with just enough lace/beading to keep it interesting. I never got the tell-tale "feeling" in my gut though, like I said, it was logical for me. It was the only dress that I tried on (of at least 20 +) that made me feel completely beautiful and so excited to wear it every time I looked at it. I knew I made the right choice, I just wish that it wasn't so expensive hehe. Good luck finding yours and be sure to show us a bunch of pics when you do! wink.gif

I agree with the other gals... if length is your only concern; then bustle it. IMO, most dresses look amazing when they are bustled.

As far as finding the one, I never really had that tears, "OMG" moment... I love my dress and everyone that was with me agreed it was perfect - and i have no doubts about it - but it wasn't like lightning struck for me or anything. If you truly love the dress and think its perfect then I would say to go for it. There are bunch of brides on here who will tell you that they never had that emotional moment about their dress; but are sure its 'the one'.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
