Deadly swine flu virus in Mexico

Recommended Posts

LOL mummergirl, I agree!!!

I'm actually starting to get all excited again about leaving for our 2 week weddingmoon! I'm glad this seems to be blowing over (knock on wood) and that I can enjoy the wedding planning part of it again... I'm still a bit scared that something will go wrong and feel horrible for the brides who's plans were drastically altered, but I'm trying to be more optimistic...

Which resort / location did you choose?

Hi all,

We are going to Varadero and staying at the Barcelo Solymar. Its a much smaller resort that the Bahia, but I got a wedding date!! Which was all that really mattered. They have a great wedding package, a beautiful gazebo, and one of the best beaches I have ever seen. Done some mini planning and looks like they have some great tours and things to do. The best part is that the wedding package is about $600 cheaper, which helps off set some money we lost. Not impressed with Airtransat charging all my guests more money, but better than losing out!!! Can't wait to go, should be interesting handing out my May 21st, Mexico wedding favours on May 20th in Cuba... lol. My sister has named this the "Cubico" wedding... half Cuban half Mexican...lol

Ya we were very much not impressed. Our first quote was $388 a person, per week!!!!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS?? So after lengthy discussions and some changing of resorts I got it down to $185 a person. The worst thing is I tried to get our "all inclusive" insurance to cover it, and they called it an "upgrade" (even though a lower star hotel, and it was my only option) and refused to help!! Last time I pay for insurance. I am still going to take up the matter with Airtransat when I return, but just really really really happy to be going. (just upset because certain guest are students and only work part time at minimum wage and worked so hard just to come at the first price). Can't believe they take advantage of people like this.... But again, CUBA here we come!!

Ladies,

Is everyone still experiencing travel problems with dates booked at the end of May through June?

We're flying Northwest Airlines, and while they are allowing to "re-book" at no cost through May 31st, they are still flying to Mexico.

Also, it has been released that the Flu Alert level has gone down, and travel is begining to resume to business as normal. The positive vibes worked! smile29.gif

Just curious to know if everyone else is feeling relieved and if things have turned for the positive.

Much love to you all!!!!!!

As of now, we're still planning on going. Only a few of our guests have cancelled and possibly a few more. Our hotel and the airlines are offering no penalty cancellations, so at least I don't have to feel guilty they'd lost $$. Our concern is now getting a decent flight to Cancun - our flights were rearranged to include a long layover in Houston. I think the media sensation has tapered off, so hopefully the airlines will put the flights back on!

Good luck to everyone who's dealing with this unnecessary stress - I'm so glad I have this forum to help figure everything out! We'll get thru this girls - our weddings will be beautiful!! AND we get to have the craziest story to tell our grandkids someday!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
