Deadly swine flu virus in Mexico

Recommended Posts

Mummergirl and all other PV or Mexico brides

I am proud to announce that we are moving forward with our wedding in Mexico on May 22nd.... Yeah... And all 60 of our guests will be joining us.

We did take measures and any guests that had to connect through Mexico City, which was 30 total changed their flights so they will connect through Dallas or Houston and fly straight to PV.

I just spoke to two people in Mexico today, both whom I trust very much and they confirmed that the United States is really blowing this out of proportion. They have both been in Mexico for a week and feel safe and healthy.

Additionally there are more flu cases in NYC than there are in Puerto Vallarta, go figure.

My guests are very excited and feel very safe about this trip.

I truly encourage all guests to continue with their plans. Have their guests take precautions but do move forward. This is the flu, not scarlet fever or pollo...... Lets be real people. I had the flu last winter and took some antibiotics and was okay. I did lose 5 lbs:)

I did make alternative plans and then thought really what am I thinking this is silly to be freaking out. All my friends are healthy and smart. The people dying in Mexico are not seeking medical attention, live in poverty and don't have good living conditions or health.

I wish you all a very happy and healthy wedding day and hope all your guests are as supportive as mine.

Kristin from the Dazzling Details is amazing and can also enlighten her brides on the facts.

I am sending positive energy to all of you......bunny_4.gif

havent read past page 18 yet but i just wanted to jump in and say how crazy it is that people are being quarantined when they get back to work after being in mexico.

i work for an airline and WE arent even doing that! this past week about 15 of my co-workers went to PV to help with a charity that we raise money for year round (Children of the Dump), and they just got back yesterday and the day before. NONE of them have been quarantined, and are back at work and just fine.

also my in-laws and BIL/SIL and niece all just left today to go to sayulita for the week. they didnt even hesitate, even with a 2 yr old baby. they decided since IL's were coming from seattle (where we have confirmed cases) and BIL/SIL from chicago (cases there too) that they were safer going to PV where there are no cases :)

i hope things are looking up for all of you!! hang in there!

Thanks girls for being so supportive. No one from my FI's family will be there. His mom was afraid to fly in the first place so this gave her a convenient way to back out.

Part of me still wants to go and I'm like the hell with everyone else but I just don't know. So we have looked at a Plan B to do something small here but I'm like why compromise and do something here for all these people who aren't being supportive in the first place?

And then I have a great photographer that we paid to go with us and it's like if it's just us we still get beautiful pictures but when we look back in a few years there will be no bridesmaids, no dancing, no memories of the people who were there b/c no one will be there!

So what is a girl to do? I am soo upset, sad, frustrated, angry, mad as hell! I hate the swine flu and the media for blowing it all up!

Hi Ladies! I work in healthcare and I have had extensive discussions about the swine flu with numerous doctors the past couple of days and I just wanted to share a point that I have learned.

The WHO phases of pandemic alert. What everyone has to realize is that the phases only characterize how easily the virus is spread and how its spread. It DOES NOT take fatality rates or deaths into consideration. If the WHO were to phase the regular flu, which kills an estimated 250,000 and 500,000 worldwide (Regular flu has killed thousands since January - CNN.com), it would meet the criteria to be put on phase 6 pandemic alert EVERY flu season!

To the brides that have been affected by this media hyped flu, my heart goes out to you. Wherever and whenever you decide to have your wedding, it will be beautiful.

Mesita these are such good points! Would your guests be open to coming if you changed locations to say jamaica or DR? I know some girls have done this and it has worked out for them. We are definitely here to help you get through this. Irregardless you will be a beautiful bride no matter where your great photog takes pics of you!

So I still plan on going to Mexico, but I must admit... If the ruins are still closed when we get there (which they probably won't) I am gonna be majorly bummed sad.gif I figured I will wait til the 5 day shut down of stuff goes by to see if they reopen the ruins... I HOPE THEY DO!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
