There are still no reported cases of flu on the Riviera Maya. The only noticeable signs is a few people here and there wearing masks, and the pharmacies being out of masks and hand sanitizer.

I honestly feel safer here than in Houston, where a kid died from the flu and did go to a big mall while sick... Think about it : Cancun is farther away from Mexico City than Houston is (807 miles versus 749) !! And I don't think the border will be an efficient barried, even if the flu has no visa to enter. And there are 49 cases in NYC - none here - why would it be safer to fly to NYC than to Cancun ?

I also still don't think it's a big issue, because people that die actually remainined unattended during a long period of time (the first woman was treated for throat infection, then pneumonia before they detected the flu ; same for the kid) and don't necessarily contaminate their relatives.

I also notice that people that gety sick on flights are only a few. i.e., it's not the whole flight that get sick but only a handful. So is it that contagious ?

Also, the death toll does not increase.

Anyway, I'm here getting married tomorrow. 10 of my guests cancelled so we will be around 25. My family is there (and my bro will get quarantined when going back to Singapore) ; DH family is there ; and a few friends (I'm missing two in my party and DH 1).

We still plan to have a good time !

And on return I will be working from home for 72 hours - sounds like extra vacation to me !
Yay! Have a great time! Woot!

I hear ya. I dont think there is anything to worry about. People die from Viral infrections all the time. Just because its situated in a different country, all hell breaks loose. Your on a resort...just wash those hands.

It makes me feel alot better, Im not the only one who's freaking out, and my wedding isnt until the beginning of 2011. I guess the guests would just have to get over it. (lol)

Your wedding will be a trip of a life time....

ENJOY every minute of it!!

I just wanted to say how sad I am for those of you who've had to cancel/postpone your wedding. i feel awful for you. I leave for Cancun tomorrow to shoot a wedding on Monday at the Dreams resort. The bride has been in tears through this all as she's had many people cancel on them. But, they've decided to forge ahead, to not be scared themselves. They've been down there for 2 days now, and told me that everything is normal - and you wouldn't know about the flu if didn't already know. I'm actually really excited for the wedding! I wish I was down there now! The only downer about it is the regrets the guests who chose not to come will one day have, and the sadness the couple will have about not being with some of the most important people in their lives at a time of celebration.

I'll be sure to report about the situation when I get back - I'll actually try to report while I'm down there. I may not sign up for Internet in my room, but I can always BDW it from my iphonecheesy.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
