Hi Kara,

I'm in Calgary too and my wedding was slated for May 14th at the Moon Palace in Mayan Riveria. Me and half my guests are booked with Air Canada Vacations and they too are refusing to refund our money. Worse part of it is, the other half of my guests have booked with various US based airlines that are still allowing them to fly to Mexico. Their cancellation policies are allowing them to make changes to flights booked on or before May 6th, which doesn't help anyone out as we were all set to leave on May 10th. I had a couple of guests make calls to see what their options were and they were totally blown off as they didn't meet the May 6th departure criteria.

I have no alternatives as well. I can't get through to speak with anyone at Air Canada and my travel agent is also not making much headway with them.

I'm more stressed out and frustrated than anything else.

Anyways, long story short - I feel your pain.

Kara-Something can be done. There is no way that the would not refund your money or at least give you a travel voucher. Make some calls, talk to managers, like the other bride said call the media. I know that will work...they will eat it up! Good luck.

Hi all,

I just wanted to introduce myself. I was supported to get married in mid-June in Cabo. I've been following this forum since Monday and decided I needed to join - to offer my support and to be able to share info with you all.

You all have been so VERY helpful over the past two days. It's comforting to know that there are others out there grappling with similar issues and stresses. Thank you for your support and for making me laugh!

For those women who have had their wedding cancelled, my heart goes out to you all! But I hope that in a few months (ok maybe years), we will all have great swine flu wedding stories to tell.

For those women - like me - waiting and seeing. Well, we will wait and see together.

In the spirit of sharing, I found this article interesting - it discusses the facts and fiction of swine flu. Sorting fact from fiction about swine flu - Swine flu- msnbc.com

Here's to everyone's health!

Kara I know this may not be the most fun option, but have you asked anybody you know if they have money you can borrow for now to get flights from an american airlinehuh.gif I am SURE someone will have the money or even that people could pool the money together....have you asked anyone?? If this makes it a little lighthearted, all i can think is that if people can quickly come up with bail money for someone, that it is possible for someone to have money so you can get plane tickets quickly....just a thought

Hello ladies....I only started on this thread the day of the outbreak but have been following all of you this week and though have only posted a few times feel connected to those of you going through this horrible swine flu so wanted to post on here as well as my regular thread for my hotel

My heart is breaking as I write this e-mail and I guarantee that it won't be my last. I am officially canceling my mexican wedding. I can not deal with the phone calls, e-mails, texts, fights, tears and not knowing what do do feeling anymore. Since the level was raised to 5 it has given us no reason to believe that we can still count on going anymore. There are too many people concerned and we don't want to do it without the 46 people that have committed to going with us. Pushing is also not an option because of the time lost by being a freelancer due to the wedding and the money would be greater if we wait and do it at another time. I just can't afford to go through the lack of work again and also can't guarantee that we could find a date that would work for everyone again.

Our plan B is to goto Key Largo in the Florida Keys because it would give us a beautiful beach, weather, sunset and ability to put everyone at the same hotel thus creating the weekend environment that we had planned in Mexico, as I have said from the beginning it isn't about the wedding day it is about the whole trip and time spent with everyone which we would lose if we do it here in LA.

I am still going to bring my Mexican Fiesta Koozies and gift bags that say May 15th even though I am now getting married on May 16th and I am still doing my starfish and chair bows and fans and having our friend do our ceremony so I know that I can end up with a very special weekend but just not what I wanted. If I wanted to do it this way I would have from the start.....

That being said I need to find a way to get over the loss and move on with the new plan. I told my Fiance that since we aren't doing Mexico we ARE doing a honeymoon even if its got to be paid on a credit card. We are planning to hit Hawaii for a week which I am hoping will make up for some of the things I lose out on in Mexico.

As I said I will still keep coming on here and checking in because I have gotten used to all of your support as well as the feeling of just getting to vent to

I think all of us brides from the US are very fortunate to be able to choose how we want to deal with the Swine. For me, all my guests are flying American Airlines on either May 20 or 21 and at the moment they are only letting people change flights who travel through the 16th. Because of this, canceling is not an option for us at THIS moment. Even if they do allow changes for the dates we are traveling, I strongly feel that we will not change anything. like istephiez said, it would be near impossible to find another date that works for all of our guests. Given that there are no reported cases in the Quinterra Roo state, I do not feel that my health is at risk and if for any chance any of us do experience any of the symptoms, its just the flu. If treated, it is not life threatening. I am sure all of us have had the flu at some point in our lives. We will be talking Tamiflu with us as a precaution. I think that is basically it. The fact that they raised the pandemic alert level to a 5 freaked me out some, but Obama reassured me tonight :)

I will be in Mexico 21 days from now enjoying guacamole and margaritas as I lay out in the sun!

They say everything happens for a reason so maybe your FL wedding will turn out to be better than anything you could have ever expected. Are you going with the same resort? I'm kinda wishing our resort had options in the States just in case but no such luck so guests will be paying a $380 cancellation charge just on their room - quite a wedding present for a wedding they never even get to go to (knock on wood)!

I literally am crying as I type this. I have joined those of you who called off your Mexican weddings. I just finished up changing the entire week from Cozumel to Key West, basically doing in twelve hours what took me six months to set up. Here is my new hotel Key West Hotels & Resorts Gardens Hotel Key West Hotels we have stayed there before. It really is very lovely. We'll get married on Smathers Beach.

To those of you who are going forward with your Mexican weddings I admire your temerity and strength.

So, my next thread will be: FS: 45 mint tins with "Jessica and Paul, May 20, 2009, Cozumel, Mexico" Any takers?crybaby2.gif

I'm proud of you for re-planning so quickly. I'm still in denial. I don't know what I want to do.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
