wedding dress dilemna!

Recommended Posts

Okay ladies, I'll try to answer everyones questions.

Yes, I have tried it on, twice, and loved it!! The material is so light, it would be perfect for mexico.

When I tried it on the second time my mother was with me and she thought it was too fancy for mexico, I thought it was no fancier than any of the others I tried on, and then when she heard the price she almost had a heartattack, so that made me kind of stop thinking I was going to get the dress.

The dress in the store is a cognac color and I want white, I wish they could show me a pic of it in white!

As far as alterations, it is a corset back, so that part would be okay and MS makes petites, so I think I may only need a bustle.

I like the seamstress idea too!

I really have to move on this if I am going to order it because I only have 5 months and I don't even know if that will be enough time!

I did find someone selling it online for 1200, worn once.

Oh, btw, heres my dress that I have now:

I went through a similar dilemna and in the end bought my dream dress (with a nightmare price-tag). However I actually already have a buyer lined up (through Craigslist) who is going to buy the dress from me for 2/3 the original price.

After my ordeal I have a few notes pre-wedding (so my opinions may change day-of):

- If I could do it all over again I don't think I would have bought it. (Part of the reason though is I am concerned that the dress may not be super flaterring)

- I am finding it very difficult to sell the dress and keep secretly hoping the other brides backs out!

- I also actually bought a different dress at first and cried that night - freaked out and called the salon at 1am saying I wanted to return it for the one I really wanted.

- Maybe it's just overall wedding jitters for me though - maybe my dress will look awesome and I'll be the happiest girl in the world.

So in other words, I am absolutely no help. So I my advice it go with your gut. Both options will work and no matter what you will love whatever dress you end up wearing. Pick one and then just go with it - either way!

(Again, sorry about being no help)

I second that! When I started to look for a dress I thought 1,200 and thats it, I don't care how much I love it. Well when I put on th eone I loved it was 1,700 plus tax and shipping! I thought you know what the pics and the dress I can't compromise, but I can cut back somewhere else and got it!

Thanks Tara! I actually do love my first dress and I won't be unhappy wearing it (the picture doesn't even do it justice, its so pretty!)

I don't even know why I started thinking about the other dress again, but when I saw that perfect picture of it I almost cried because I just felt like such a princess in it, it made my waist so tiny, it pushed up my small boobs, and it was so lightweight and different than any other dress.

Its such a difficult decision!

Kash, everytime I think about this situation, I think of you and scarlet! And I don't know if I'm going to want to sell it after the wedding either! At first FI said, well you're going to use it to make other things after the wedding right? you know how some people make christening gowns, quilts, etc... out of pieces of their wedding gown and then he said well you could sell it too, if you're worried about spending that much money. So I know if I didn't sell it he'd be okay with it, but I don't know if I would.

It seems ridiculous to me to spend so much on a dress to wear for a few hours, but I just love it! (I also love the dress I already have, I don't want to turn into a 2 dress bride!)

And by the way Kash, you're going to look absolutely stunning in scarlet on your wedding day!

Thanks Sweetie! So are you - whatever you decide! I say buy it, love it and keep it! To hell with the money - some things are more important! If after the wedding you decide you want to sell it then go ahead and do it. I guess the thing is we pay so much in life for things that are "necessary" let this be the thing you buy to celebrate YOU! And my last piece of advise is - if you do buy it don't feel guilty - just enjoy it!

Hi Jilly,

I just ordered my Maggie dress on the web and I save about $400. It has a sweetheart top just like the one you like. BTW the dress is absoultley amazing! I thikn you should go for it. Sell the other one on craigslist or ebay. Check out www.valscollections.com to see if they have your dress for cheaper.

Good Luck!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
