MUST READ-- Mexico DW worried about travel

Recommended Posts

Thanks everyone for your posts on this. I have been looking into this issue recently because I have some guests that are a little concerned (but no one that has cancelled their trip). However, I have not found anything that has caused me to worry. I think as long as you use common sense and keep yourself out of dangerous situations, like you would anywhere in the US, you should be fine.

Mexico depends heavily on tourism and they are going to do whatever possible to keep tourists safe.

Everywhere has some danger. We are told in the UK to take care when going to the US I don't think Cancun is any different.

I have to be honest tho police carry guns everywhere I don't think Cancun is any worse or better. I went to Egypt and they had an armed guard of the coach! It was a precaution which is better than not taking any. It is supposed to make you feel safer not worse.

Also if you don't want to go out of the resort then I wouldn't be paying all that cash to go.

wow....thanks for sharing you guys. I've been worried too. I guess common sense is the way to go then. Seriously, I'm not gonna let this get to me, neither of you brides-2-b out there. Let's stay positive and optimistic for our own sake and for our dear guests.

I was wondering..has anyone put together a LETTER OR NOTICE to send guests regarding this matter?? I really think our guests need to know what to expect and be assured of their safety. It will certainly help to clear any false info. they've probably came across so far.

Thanks..

Thanks everyone for your posts on this. I feel better about it. I freaked out when I heard about at and everyone coming to me and telling me about it. We have insurance and if anything happens we will just cancel. We will of course monitor Cancun until then. Only 6 months! Whoo-hoo!

I agree with notifying guests about the travel alert. I posted a notice on our wedding website discussing the alert and requesting that guests read the Department of State alert before looking to other sources so that they are properly informed.

Thanks for posting this! Apparently last year in PDC the drug cartels assassinated their version of Quintana Roos president- at least that's what one of the workers at the resort we visited told us. But it's like anywhere you go. You are in another country, just exercise caution and follow your gut, and you will be fine. We are planning our 2nd trip back since then =)

I was just in Puerto Vallarta last week and felt completely safe. The most threatened we felt was when we were watching CNN-- it was funny how they painted the picture of mexico vs what we were actually living/seeing! We talked to several US citizens who live there now and they said that tourist cities are safe-- it's just like traveling anywhere. Stay where you know you should be and you'll be fine. We were out in the clubs, took a trip into the jungle and had a blast on the beach. We can't wait to return!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
