I was going to get everything done at the resort, but I couldn't afford to get hair/makeup done for the BMs which I was bummed about. I really wanted to treat them to something. But then I found Alexandro Zavala on the forum, so he's going to do our hair and makeup. He was actually less expensive than the resort for the bridesmaids so they're all going to have their makeup done. Here's his site in case you're interested, Alexandro Zavala - Makeup Artist Hairstylist - Cancn, Mxico. And yes, I am using DJ Bob too! I'm so glad he's going to meet with Gabriela! He hadn't mentioned that to me. Are you picking a lot of songs you want played or are you leaving it to him? He told me to send 10 songs and he would take care of the rest, which kinda freaked me out a bit in case we didn't like his music. But he said I can send as many songs as I want, but he does need the flexibility to play some of his songs to keep the crowd going. He sent me a list of some typical songs he plays, and honestly, I wasn't a big fan of them, so I'm trying to think of as many songs as possible! What are your guests going to do in between the ceremony and cocktail hour? Gabriela told me she would take care of it, so I'm not sure exactly what that means. I think there's a bar near the beach that the guests can go to to kill some time before the cocktail hour.

That is a great question about what the plan is for the guests between the wedding and the cocktail hour, I was thinking they would all just kill some time at a bar as well. I just emailed Gabriela to see what she will do to help facilitate this. I will let you know what she says. As far as DJ Bob I am still working on my 15 or so songs to send over to him. He told me the same thing as he did to you about wanting to have flexibility. I also emailed him asking if he would have a large library so that if my guests want to request a song he would have a large number of songs to select from? I will let you know on that as well. That is great you are paying for your girls to get their make-up and hair done- very nice of you! I heard the same feedback on the make-up so I do not plan to use them for that only just my hair. Do you have a large group coming? I think I am close to 55 guests that are comfirmed. Can't wait!

Thanks for keeping me posted on Gabriela and DJ Bob! Our group is pretty small right now, we have about 30 confirmed. That just reminded me that I think you have to have 50 guests to rent out the Tropical Restaurant - is that right? I don't think we'll have 50 after all...I'll have to email Gabriela to see if they will make an exception for us. I don't see why not - they're getting $800 whether there's 30 or 50!

Hi Iberostar gals,

It looks like we are going to have about 20 people attend our wedding. Any suggestions on how we should do our reception? I am not sure if we will be able to do a private one. I was thinking about the aqua bar. I am not sure if that is concidered private. I wa thinking cocktail hour, dinner, & then DJ and dancing at the aqua bar. Has anyone seen a reception there? Thanks for any help or advice you can give me.

We have 31 guests for our April/09 wedding and have rented the Tropical restaurant for our private reception. Gabriella didn't make it seem like it was an exception. As long as you are paying the $800 extra, I don't see them minding what your guests numbers are at.

I am going to have between 20-30 people and my plans are similar to yours. My ceremony is at 5:00pm and I wanted to do a cocktail hour on the beach following my garden ceremony so guests would have something to do while we all took pics on the beach. My groom and I are meeting at 4pm to do our own pics before the ceremony. I plan on having dinner at the Brazilian at the earlier seating time which is 6:30, but depending on how long our pics on the beach with everyone take, I hope they don't mind if we get seated a bit later. Does anyone know how strict they are on this? I emailed Gabriella about it, but she has not responded. I am still not sure what we will do after dinner. I am stuck between just getting whoever wants to continue the party to meet up at one of the bars or at the disco, or actually doing something at the aqua bar for a couple of hours with a DJ. My day is only two months away!!! AAAHH!! I really need to figure this out!!

My ceremony is at 5 in gazebo. Planned to rent tropical with dinner at 7. Cocktail 6-7. I was init told there was a min to rent tropical, but I can't remember number. I wasn't concerned at the time because I had enough but now i'm at 25-30 and that is if no one backs out- which is half of what I started. Everything that could happen has. I work with a lot of my friends. I'm a nurse and the hospital did a huge layoff and may do another one in 90 days. So now people can't go. My hrs have been cut. Which finan changes what I can do and with the alerts our guests taking young children don't want to come. So I'm trying not to let all this take away from our wedding but it does. So if there is a min to rent tropical I will have to find out other options. What is aqua bar? and can you do DJ ther? I already have deposit on dj and photogr for 5 hrs cause I thought we would be able to do tropical

I remember when we started negotiating for a private reception at the tropical restaurant... We told Gabriella we had 20-30 people and she was going to let us do the tropical... That was before we decided on having the private reception and renting out the brazilian steakhouse... So I don't see gabriella having a problem with it?!?! The aqua bar is located by the tranquil pool in the del mar. It's nice I got pics if you wanna see what it looks like I can email them... And yes ya can have a dj but I think you have to be done by 10:30pm, better double check that though! Who did you end up getting for the dj, was dj bob able to recommend anyone?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
