Is everyone doing a Sand Ceremony??

Recommended Posts

I apologize if this is a repeat...

SO FI and I weren't planning on doing a sand ceremony but after being on this forum for a while I see that almost everyone is having one. Is it pretty common?

I know that it takes place of the unity candle part in more traditional ceremonies (which we werent really planning on either) but Id like to get more information on the significance of the sand ceremony and where it comes from

Any information is helpful!

Thanks!!

We were originally going to do it to include his daughter, but everyone I spoke with said don't as the day is about us and the unity of us and she is already involved with the wedding. They reminded me that we are going to have our children together and this marriage and the vows are to each other and our family (which includes her and future children). The people I know who did one, ended up throwing the sand away. So, the more I thought about it...we opted not to. It sure looks pretty in pictures though

We haven't completely decided yet.. but honestly, I am leaning towards not doing it. It's a beautiful gesture and looks amazing; as well as gives you a nice keepsake. I just don't want to have to buy anything else or plan anything else. I know it sounds awful; but I am maxed out financially and planning wise. LOL.

Hmm these are all good points. I thought it would be cool to have a keepsake but the more I think about it I doubt we will keep the sand- and it is ANOTHER thing to buy and think about haha. I guess if we do it it will be last minute

Thanks ladies!

This is going to sound really terrible, but to me, a sand ceremony is nothing more than pouring sand. I like the idea, but for some reason it just doesn't touch me in any sort of emotional way. I wish that it evoked some sort of emotional response in me because I think it's it's a fantastic concept and makes for a nice keepsake, but it doesn't do anything for me, so I'm skipping it!

When it comes to my wedding, I try to make a lot of my decisions based on what I feel emotionally (such as wedding songs). If the thought of a sand ceremony makes you all warm and fuzzy inside, I say go for it, but if you could care less it's probably not worth the expense.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
