April 2009 Brides Check In!

Hop to it Kari!

I still haven't finalized our guest count either.... but with maybe one or two exceptions, its safe to say they're all 'no's. I'm bringing a couple of extra OOT bags and we aren't doing placecards or chairs, so we would be able to accomodate extras.

Is a guest book a must? Everyone always does them, but are they necessary?

I didn't really like the concept of a guest book (since people just write their names and where they came from). I found these on ebay instead which I am handing out at my shower to those not coming to the wedding and will bring them to Cuba as well for those who are. It's essentially a chance for people to congratulate us and provide us with words of wisdom, etc. which I thought were cool. Anyways, I just emailed the seller our names and wedding date and they look really nice.

I love that the thread went from Things I've Done to Things I have Left to DO!!! I guess that means the list is getting shorter!! It's so exciting isn't it?!!

I too, didn't see the point of a guest book which is why for our AHR we're doing a scrapbook with a polaroid camera where guests can have 1/2 a page to themselves to leave us whatever message they like. I can't wait!! I asked two of my students (I'm a teacher) to help with the picture taking and helping guests with the scrapbook. I think it'll be fun!

That will be fun! My cousin did that for his wedding and I think it makes a really cool memory to look back on!

I read somewhere (within the forum I would imagine) the idea of giving postcards to guest to write on and return to you. Maybe we'll include a couple of post cards with the OOT bags and then also do something similar at our AHR. Lay out a tray of postcards next to our cardbox or something?

Or maybe do a wish tree like they had on an episode of Rich Bride Poor Bride?

Ok ladies I have a question. Where are you having your Bridal Shower? I know...I know we are not suppose to plan this but I've been asked where I want to do this. Trying to consider convenience for everyone and not sure if a home will accomodate all the guest; may end up being 20 to 30 people. I've considered a favorite retaurant but they dont have a private room; we would just have a section of the restuarant. Is that OK? I'm so confused; does anyone have any suggestions?

I am having a shower...actually mine is tomorrow!!!!!!!!! smile29.gif

I had the same issue though...I didn't want anyone to spend a ton of money to rent a place out. Luckily though my parents house (or their basement) is large enough to accomodate all the guests. I think the total number will be right around 35-40.

I think if you can get a section of a restaurant reserved that would be just fine...maybe if you did that like mid-afternoon on a saturday or sunday the restaurant wouldn't be too busy then

I know that are some pretty imparative items left undone, but oddly I'm not super stressed yet... and we depart on March 29th.

Here's whats at the top of my outstanding (don't even get me started on whats been accomplished for the AHR):

Grooms attire
Outfit for Bridal shower 2/28
Outfit for Bachelorette Party 3/14
Dress for Legal Ceremony 3/19
Petti Coat
Something Borrowed
Bracelet
Six Pence
Finish OOT Bags
Dress Fitting and Sash to be made
Parents' gifts
and my wedding ring was just ordered

It is so funny to see this, your wedding day is 2 days before mine but we have the same shower and bachelorette date....YEAH!

I just found out they cannot alter my mom's wedding dress to a short dress adn let the bust out for me to wear on my rehersal dinner, because they are afraid the lace will fall apart....so sad. so now I am short an outfit YIKES!

I have a really nice silk black short cocktail dress I bought for a charity auction that is lined with ostrich feathers on the bottom. Is it bad to wear black to rehearsal dinner? I was thinking as no one has seen it except my best friend and one couple who is pregnant and can't make the wedding it would work? Or should I move the ivory taffeta BCBG short wedding looking dress I just bought for the shower party (it is a co-ed dinner party for 50 ppl) to the rehearsal dinner? Don't know what to do...

We just bought FI a second suit so he is now in a beautiful Ivory Canali linen suit for hte wedding and i LOVE it! I am so much happier. I took care of a lot this week. I got the luggage tags and pre-travel brochures in envelops and addressed, ready to go out on 3/1. I dropped of our little girls dress for alterations and to change her dress to how I want it. My 2nd fitting is on Tuesday 2/24 to check the alterations and fix the bustle. So outfits are done.

Guest list is finalized (everyone sent back their RSVP cards but 2...WOW). Seating chart is almost done, rehearsal seating chart is done. Welcome Party is ready to go and in the hands of the resort now (opted for consumption which I don't think is smart with our friends and $12 cocktails).

I still need to:
confirm Dance floor (last minute item needed to change of venue on the prop)
Confirm cocomats for the aisle
get lighting for the dinner (again last minute due to moving it outside)
placecard names (to be done this weekend)
Shoes for ella (FG)
BD shoot (3/14...doing it at the hotel suite before the bachelorette. outfits/shoes already purchased)
Dance lessons...have not started...deep doo-doo there
chinese lanters? yes or no? we are outside now, can't decide
Music list (start)
pick up rings this week and get them engraved
finish welcome brochure, menu's, and instruction frames (typed but need to finalize and print)

Doesn't seem too much...not feeling the stress yet. I am sure it will come. Hope youa re all having fun!

P.S. first wedding gifts came this week (the entire set of 12 of our china...WOW!)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
