I have heard human hair works for deer that are eating your garden as well....

Great thread! Ok so we just moved into a new town/new house last September. I dug up everything from the front yard b/c the house had been vacant for 5 months so it looked like weeds and junk. I planted tulips all around the front border but I'm not sure what else to put up front! I like flowers better than plants just for the looks - has anyone tried that roll n grow? My 6 year old daughter really thinks it look cool LOL!!

 

Thanks for the hanging tomato plant info Tammy! I have planted tomatoes in the past the *old* way but I seriously might have to try this!

Thanks for the info Tammy - I think I'm going to try that this year! We've still got a good 3 months before I can plant anything outside and not have to worry about it freezing - heck - we still have 3 feet of snow on the ground, so it's going to be awhile, but I'm excited to start planning our garden pretty soon!

 

ANyone have any good ways to reduce the weeds in my flower bed? It was neglected by my MIL for a lot of years and by the end of the summer, it's completely overrun....I'd like to dig it all up and start over, but there's a lot of nice mature perennials in the beds that I'd like to keep! I'd welcome any suggestions!

 

Can't wait for spring now!!!! :)

supposedly this is an old wives tales...i just spent 4 nights reading up on gophers and there are a bunch of home remedies like: hair, juicy fruit gum (they eat it and die), bleach, have a male pee in the whole, dirty cat litter, etc...but they aren't supposed to work...some people claim they do so i will try all of them but i think the only real way to do it is traps...

LOL have a MALE pee in them? I guess I didn't realize there was a difference!! Are you going to try that one?

This one is true. I live in the middle of nowhere and we have deer pretty much everyday in our yard. They ate our garden! We grow food mostly and rose bushes and a wildflower garden. Anyways take the hair from your hairbrush and scatter it. Really! I promise!

Hi Tammy. I live in the bay area as well... I have a really super-hard clay soil, hard enough to break a metal spade by banging on the dirt! How's yours? Do you have to constantly amend it?

I moved into a house with a beautiful yard last year and although I spent a lot of money on plants most of them didn't survive due to deer/drought. I think I'm going to look into planting more succulents.

okie dokey....husband built garden box and we have our compost pile working away...

 

we hope to get the soil all perfect and start planting our seedlings early april. we are so excited.

 

there is an article in our local paper that says that having a home garden can save afamily of 5 over $2000 a year...

 

during the recession they had "recession gardens" that supplied the nation with 40% of the nations fruits and vegetables...it looks like a good time to bring recession gardens back wink.gif

      Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010.       Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations.
