Street Size 12/14, mermaid style dress - is that your situation?

Recommended Posts

This is going to sound really odd, so I apologize in advance.

I really want to see a picture of a gal (a real bride would be great) who is a street size 12/14 wearing a mermaid style dress. It's nearly impossible to do a search for it anywhere... so I thought I'd come here and see if any of you are a size 12/14 and wore a mermaid style dress and would be willing to point me in the direction of some of your pictures. Bonus points if you are 5'5-5'7.

I found a really pretty mermaid style dress and I must have it... but I am not going to actually try on dresses until September (my wedding isnt until Feb 2010) because I'm in the process of losing a bunch of weight. I just want to know that I'm not wasting my dream on a dress that likely wont look good on me.

On another note... if anyone wants to be ambitious, I bet you could make a lot of money in advertising ect (however people make money from websites) if you wanted to start a website that featured photos of real girls in dresses at varying heights/sizes/types. They have those websites that have the "virtual" girls that you can plug height/weight in to and get a virtual you... but I want a website that has real girls.

Ok, ending my weird post....

If you go to the Maggie Soterro website, there is a page of real brides in real dresses. Maybe you can find a mermaid style and see what you think.

I only tried on 1 mermaid dress and i looked really hippy. But, if there is one thing I learned during dress shopping, it's that the same dress will look completely different on 2 different people.

Good luck!

THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! You girls are so amazing (and you look so great in your dresses!!). I really really appreciate it.

It's tough for me to know... I had lap-band surgery last August, so I'm on my way down, I just don't know what its going to look like when I get there. :) I'm planning on being a size 12/14 by September but people keep asking me what type of dress I am going to get... its... kinda... well... yeah. :) I read the "suggestions" and they say that mermaid dresses are for tall super skinny size 2 girls... but then I look at the dresses and think "it doesn't have to be that way... I bet normal girls can wear them too.

Here's the dress I am looking at:

Moonlight Valerie Couture Wedding Dresses - Style H9906 [H9906] - $990.00 : Wedding Dresses, Prom Dresses, and Designer Wedding Dresses

It's a mermaid dress, but does have an overlay, so I think it is a bit more forgiving than other mermaid dresses. :)

(ducking before any rotten tomatoes hit my face)...but I think that mermaid styles look BEST on women with hour glass "womanly" figures. I sometimes see them on very thin girls and think "Damn, that's not the best style for that type of body." Not that I haven't seen thinner women pull them off beautifully, but I think that style itself is made for women with a defined shape...curves. Even the "skinny" girls who look best in them have some hips and boobs. It's a very sexy silhouette and I think it looks better on a Marilyn Monroe type vs. a Kate Moss type. lol

I'm a street size 12/14 and have one dress that's not really mermaid, but it's definitely fitted. I'm planning to get a second still since now I have more time and it will definitely be mermaid'esque. lol...Part of the reason why I'm looking for another one is because I think I could pull off a lil' sexier and I want this boy's jaw to drop. lol

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
