Hi!

I came to the same conclusions. The islands are more expensive than Mexico except for Jamaica and the Dominican, but I really did not want to be restricted to the resort, which is what I had heard about those two.

We decided on the Riviera Maya. I have been to a lot of Mexico, including Puerto Vallarta and many non-resort places. When I went to teh Riviera Maya on a cruise a few years ago, I was blown away by the water and how beautiful it was.

I also like Mexico because there are easy flights to Cancun from Sweden (my fiance is Swedish and we live there) and NYC. Also there are a lot of activities with the jungle, the mangroves, the ruins etc. Seems to have something for everyone.

We thought we could spend an extra week just the two of us on the islands if we wanted. But my fiance is now interested in trekking around Mexico.

What do you have on Playa del Carmen?

Jeannie,

This is what a friend of mine sent me when I asked how she liked getting married at the Riu in Playa Del Carmen

"I loved it there, not my hotel though...lol..but it was so tropical and full of beach and palm trees. I stayed at the Royal in Cancun for my honeymoon and loved it, check out the Royal in Playa del Carmen, they treat you like kings and Queens. the one in Cancun was brand new, built after the hurricane. I dont know how the one in Playa looks. My wedding was at the RIU, I would not recommend the ones in playa."

I recently went to a wedding at The Royal. The rooms and staff were amazing. The only problem we had was they gave us a room with 2 double beds, so make sure to tell your guests to request a king size. I really loved how the town of Playa del Carmen was less than 5 minutes away walking for those who wanted to get out and explore. I would definitely recomend this resort again!
Happy Planning!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
