Moon Palace 2008 & 2009 Brides - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

I would definitely call them, I found it easier to talk to a coordinator right then and you can write down the dates and times they tell you. It's easier than going back and forth on email with them, I found that my contact there only wrote me back every 24 hours, which isn't a lot, but when you are a bride and trying to plan, it seems like forever!!

Has anyone else had a hard time deciding between a civil wedding or symbolic? I have my wedding date set and as of right now, it is for the symbolic wedding. I was thinking that all of the paperwork and blood tests were too stressful, but now I am reconsidering. I think it would be great for that to be our true wedding day, so just wondering if anyone else had a hard time with this decision and if you found any information that was helpful?? Thank you so much!

I was going to include 'useful information', for instance that you should bring biodegradable sunscreen, and how to book a airport transfer to the hotel, but I'm wondering what other kinds of things I should mention? Does anyone know if it's hard to get into the restaurants so you should make your reservations right away, or where you can go to see the nightly shows, etc., etc.? It's hard doing this having never been to the resort. If anyone has input, I would be so grateful!!
The restaurants do not take reservations (we tried) other than the reservation that is included in your wedding package and with your honeymooner package. And it was not a problem getting into any of them even with bigger groups (they just may split you up).

You may include an itinerary or something to that effect, or a way to contact you when they get there, or an initial meeting spot.

You may also recommend they bring $1's - even though you aren't supposed to tip, everyone does.

Definitely recommend long pants and closed toe shoes for the guys. The evenings were fine for when I was there in November, but a sweater or jacket is always advisable...

Ok here are my questions for the day:

1. To veil or not to veil? I have a veil that I bought b4 I knew I would be getting married in Mexico with blowing winds. Are you ladies doing veils? It seems like they look great in some videos and pictures and in others the brides are doing all they can to keep them out of their faces. I have found someone that does beautiful bird cages vales. I was thinking about doing one of them but I am still on the fence.

2. Have you seen the beach at MP b4? I have read some reviews on tripadvisor and it seems that it is not the best. Are you concerned about this?

3. Bug bites…I have also read some reviews from people that have gotten really really bad bug bites. They are not sure if itâ€s sand flees or bed bugs but have all said it was painful. We have a lot of older people attending the wedding and I am now concerned for them. I can take a few days of itching but I would feel bad for my guest. Do you know anything about this or have experience with it?

4. Photogs….if you have been married at MP and just used their photography package were you happy with it? I am really trying to keep the cost down and this would be nice if I didnâ€t need to bring someone in from outside.

5. What package are you doing? If you are doing the free package what do you plan on adding if anything?

Thank you sooooo much for reading this and sharing your knowledge and thoughts! You gals are great!!!

1. Its pretty windy so if you are thinking about not doing a veil, I wouldn't. I left my hair down and even that got annoying.

2. Beach is just fine. They do rake the seaweed everyday, and we had plenty of people hang out on the beach and have lots of fun.

3. Bugs were also not an issue for us, though someone from this forum who was there the week before us stated they were. So you could always suggest they take bug spray if its a problem.

4. We absolutely loved our photography. It turned out really great for the fact that it wasn't a huge/expensive package. The photographer we worked with (I don't have his name) was really nice and directed us well. And you get it back fast.

5. I did the free package and added photography, video, some table flowers. We also had a free cocktail party.

I'm planning to show up with my hair washed and dried already to save time but I've heard about wedding salon appointments taking 2 hours to complete. That would put me at 10 am with only an hour for dressing and makeup before the wedding starts...and I've also heard that you should be ready about 30 minutes before wedding because of various reasons...getting there on time...pictures...flowers, etc. I just hate to be rushed (and sweaty) when I'm getting married!

My question is....what would YOU do? It doesn't show that there's a wedding scheduled after mine on the website...actually the next wedding seems to be 4 hours later so I could likely change the time for an hour later without much fuss. Remember, it's just me and my FH so I don't have to worry about already have the time on invitations, etc.
If you can push it back I would just for your peace of mind. It is your wedding and they will wait for you. However, if you are stressed about it, it only makes it harder on you. Your hair probably will take a couple of hours - mine took at least 1.5 hours and my dude was slooooowww! I was worried I was going to miss my wedding! It was pretty amusing - because it was taking so long my mom and SIL left to go get ready, but unfortunately the van transfer wasn't picking up at the golf course then (I was at the Golf spa not one of the spas in each section) so they waited at least a half hour if not more for a transfer. So they were still sitting there when I left. THEN, once a ride finally showed I had to ride a golf cart back to the Nizuc side. Thankfully the hair guy had done some tight curls and sprayed it like it was going out of style. :)

Overall, don't stress!!! They allow an hour for the wedding and it only takes like 20 min. So even if you are late - you'll be FINE!! My wedding ended up starting late but it was because my guests weren't even there yet!! Also, remember this is Mexico, and they are laid back.

1. To veil or not to veil? I will be doing a veil, but I think we'll attach some clear weights to help keep it down while we're outside of the gazebo. One definate advantage to the chapel gazebo is that it has plexiglass windows up to block the wind. I don't believe the other two gazebos do.

2. Have you seen the beach at MP b4? no

3. Bug bites… If you're doing any kind of OOT bag, you can include some bug spray, or the wipes, or I think they even have a sunblock/repellant combination. No harm in having it if you don't need it.

4. Photogs…. We have David Pena reserved through the resort. Of the samples seen, his work has a pretty artistic feel. I like the saturation of color he uses.

5. What package are you doing? We're doing the free symbolic package and including the photographer, the horse drawn carriage, my bouquet, hair & make-up, and we're adding a variety of pillar candles on the altar (our ceremony is at 5 pm/ the sun sets at 6). Other than that we'll take advantage of what the free package has to offer. We, too, are on a tight budget so we're skipping a traditional reception at the resort and using the dinner reservation and then going dancing at the discoteque afterward. We're skipping the cake because we'll do one at the AHR, plus from what I understand the cake isn't that good.

As far as decorations goes, we'll bring a white aisle runner, freeze dried flower petals (can't use silk and they charge $40/bag for fresh ones), and raffia fans wrapped with ribbon and a flower.

Simple, but pretty with a romantic glow.

1. To veil or not to veil? I'm not using a veil but this is my second wedding. I have a flower for my hair that I bought off ebay.

2. Have you seen the beach at MP b4? I haven't but it looks beautiful even with some of the seagrass.

3. Bug bites…We are bringing bug repellent of some kind. I would definitely let your guests know that they might need it or provide it for them.

4. Photogs….I'm using the resort photographer...the brides who have posted pictures seem happy with them. The beach shots look AMAZING!

5. What package are you doing? I am doing the free package and adding photos, CD, DVD, flowers (bride's and groom's), carriage, hair (undecided about makeup...I know, I'd better decide FAST!), and a small cake.

1 - Veils - I think I'm going to wear one. Right now I have one that I was going to pin under a bun, but I'm thinking of trying on a few mantilla veils.

2 - I haven't seen the beach, but I've heard mixed reviews. I'm from Massachusetts, so I'm used to seaweed on the beach. It doesn't really bother me!

3 - I don't know about Mexico, but when I went to Jamaica last July, it was a problem. The sand fleas were awful, and when I got home, my legs swelled up and I looked like I had some skin disease. It was actually kind of funny. I'm going to make sure to tell my guests to bring bug spray and I'm going to put bug repellent wipes in my OOT bags.

4 - I was going to use the resort photographer, and get one of the upgraded packages, until I stumbled across a promotion that ExpressionsbyMisti has going right now for BDW brides - just pay for travel and hotel for ten hours photography! I decided to forgo the resort photographers and hire her. We will still be using the resort videographer though.

5 - We are doing the free package, although the selfish girl in me wants the big package so I can get the massages and stuff...LOL. We are adding on the horse and carriage, the cake, extra marriage certificates, hair and make up. We might add flowers, but I'm thinking about getting paper umbrellas, since it will be cheaper. If I do that, I will probably have the resort make flower chains to wrap around my umbrella because I think I really want some flowers.

I have to say...I wish it was July. It's snowy and crappy out, and my job totally sucks right now. I'm getting sooo excited about this wedding, it's not even funny. I can't fall asleep at night already because my mind is racing with all these ideas and excitement! I wonder what I'm going to be like later this year - a total wreck that can't sleep! Eeps!

Thank you guys for posting about what to tell my guests - it is definitely helpful to know that the restaurants don't take reservations, and where to get the entertainment schedules, etc. We are also getting the 'Promotion' package where you get the two free tours included as a part of your week. Does anyone know if the tours fill up quickly, or if it's possible to reserve a spot in advance? We had wanted to do the Tulum tour with the snorkeling in the afternoon as a group activity. I talked to the resort to see if I could reserve a block of seats and they said that everyone has to be at the hotel before we can book. I don't want to suggest it as a group activity and then have people get turned away if the tours fill up quickly...does anyone know how that works?

Thank you so much for your help!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
