Starting to not look good :(

Recommended Posts

I was so excited about this wedding, but its not looking so great.

I went with my sister today to the travel agent, and she was telling us some prices for the hotels I liked and they were all around 2 grand per person! My sister told me I cant ask people to spend that much and basically made it out that she wouldn't come. So her and the TA said I should look for some less exspensive 4 star places. Im pretty bumed out about this. Its my day, and maybe thats really selfish but I want it to be beautiful. Now it seems like that may be out of the question.

IMO do what you want to do, if that means a DW with your FI and no one will go, then so be it. This is your day, and two should be able to have your dream wedding. People will always b*tch and complain about the price, but when they get there and have a wonderful time they will know it's money well spent.

i agree with Tammy. i'm sorry your sister was such a sourpuss about it - but that doesn't need to stop you from having the destination wedding of your dreams! if no one else can go - so you have a romantic, small ceremony - like many girls are (or wish they were!). then if you need to - organize a cocktail hour when you get back so you can share pictures and wear your dress!

also, i don't know your family's financial situation, but $2000 for a family vacation isn't bad at all. tell them to look at it as a vacation, where you just happen to get married!

make sure you keep in the front of your mind that this is YOUR wedding, and it's not about anyone else. do what makes you happy.

No offense to your sister, but what did she expect??! When you think about it - you're at a resort for a week or so, and (depending on your resort choice) all meals are included and the flight there. That sounds like a good price to me! I forked over almost 3k (2700) for my cousins wedding and was happy to do so to get a relaxing week in the RM! If it's a DW that you want, then go ahead with it. If no one wants to go then have an at-home reception when you get back and show everyone the pictures of what they missed out on!

See, I know its my day and that 2000 isnt a whole lot, but with my sister there is 4 of them coming so it will be more like $5550 for them all. We already have basically no friends coming and my FI doesn't have any family coming. It just seems to be getting smaller by the minute. Guess its just a bit upseting that no one seems to want to come anymore.

Lucky for me, rates in Jamaica drop in April 2008 (off-season)...you're in the height of the tourist season in Jan! Is the 1950pp for 6 nights?

I noticed you're from Ontario laura, would you be interested in the DR or Cuba? I know those DWs are cheaper than jamaica. One of my gf was married in Punta Cana in November and it was gorgeous!!

Yes I looked into the DR a bit Im just not sure what resorts are good there. Where was she married?
Cuba is out because we have some family living in the USA right now. Theyre Canadian Citizens but it would just be a big hassle to get them flights there.

We are planning January, but also pricing April. January is nice though because my son will only be 23 months which means free flight! monkey.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
