We're married!!! jiggy.gif

FI and I booked this afternoon off to get married at City Hall. We decided it would just be easier getting the legal stuff done here in Canada before going to Mexico. We got there just in time to get the license and book time with a JOP (and find some random strangers for witnesses!)... our ceremony was at 4pm and lasted about 10-15 mins.

It was a little stressful going to City Hall - we had to get FI's divorce certificate too as he had misplaced it. By the time we got to the right area for the marriage licenses we were both being funny (ya know when nerves are getting to you? - KWIM?) At one point, FI thought our number was called and rushed up to the desk and the woman says to us "So you're here to pay a parking ticket?" LOL! We were nuts.

We wanted this to be a secret, so not even my coworkers know (some are invited to one of my showers) and we couldn't call friends or family to be our witnesses. So we went to the lobby to 'recruit' witnesses. After asking about 2 groups of people, FI noticed a group of younger girls (students) and went over to plead our case. Of course they all thought it was totally romantic and decided to come along for the ride!

Without further ado, here are the pics!

Here are the girls who were our witnesses! They were all nursing students. Here they are after watching us get married...

We got to chat with them while waiting for the JOP to come and take us to the room. They were nice. They were all giggly and super cute about it. Talk about a story to tell for years to come!

Here we are waiting for the JOP to be ready and take us to the room:

Here's FI's boutonniere that I made before we left... I had bought some supplies to try to make my BMs hair flowers and decided to just test it out with a real flower i had at home. I think it turned out pretty cute!

It was a super small room and the JOP was really nice. It was a pretty quick ceremony - about 10 mins. We didn't exchange rings because we want to save that for the wedding ceremony in Mexico.

We started out holding hands, but after about 2 minutes while she was talking, FI kissed me and then pulled me closer, so we spent the whole time holding eachother closely. It was a little awkward, but comforting too.

He got a bit teary, but we both maintained composure. I think I smiled the entire time.

Here we are with our JOP. She was so sweet. She said that she could really feel the love in the room and we were so cute. :) When she found out we didn't know the girls she was shocked. LOL!

Two of the girls signed our temporary certificate.

DH being DH (!), he suggested I 'throw the bouquet'... so he gave me his boutonniere and I threw it. It was hilarious. The girls were all scrambling. The girl in the middle caught it (Holly). elefant.gif

After the wedding (!) we went out for dinner at the restaurant we had our first date at, the Pepper Garden. Had a very nice dinner and complementary champagne too!

I'm wearing my rings right now, but tomorrow will have to go in to work and not say anything... it's gonna be hard! But I know we'd just get grief from people if we say that we got married and ddn't invite them... geesh!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
