I thinks it's pretty much a Manitoba tradition. Basically it is a huge party at a hall or community club. Ours had about 350 guests. They each buy tickets ($10) in advance. At the social the couple supplies all of the alcohol and sell drink tickets. The couple then makes all of the profit from the bar as well. In addition there is always a silent auction with prizes donated from friends, family and local businesses.

It was a TON of work to get it together and all of our wedding party and families worked all night. In the end we made almost 8K! These socials are extremely popular where I live, almost everyone has one.

It's a great way for friends and family to support the couple and have a great time while doing it shots.gif

My first wedding shower was on Saturday. It was SO great!! There were about 30 ladies there, mostly church ladies and my teacher friends.

Everyone was so generous and the ladies who organized it have a true gift for hospitality.

It was a brunch event with yogurt parfaits and all sorts of home made baking.

I was really overwhelmed by my friends, they did such a great job! I will post pics as soon as I get them :)

That's great you made all that $$$!!!

We call them Stagettes in Alberta :) I just went to my best friends on Saturday... what a crazy night lol! I'm not having one booo.... My best friend is getting married in Puerta Vallarta on Dec 3 so she wont be here when mine would be, and after she is back I will be working 60 hour weeks until we leave for Cancun. Also, the other reason is my family would have an old fashioned 'tea party' that I really don't want to do. All the others that have been done have bored the brides (mostly my cousins) to tears until we started sneaking into the basement to do shots wink.gif

I know there are a least a few of us Canadians here, have any of you seen lightweight men's shirts in purple or green anywhere? Im having no luck in my city so Im probably going to have to go out of town or order online.

Hope you are all doing great! January is really sneaking up on us hehe :)

Hey another Ontario bride here! Our Stag and Doe is on Friday night and it has been organized by the groomsmen....I'm hoping their planning will turn it into a sucess, but it seems we've sold a ton of tickets so far!! Let you know how it goes! We are hoping to clear about $5000 after everything is said and done.

That's awesome that your GM planned the whole thing. We made a lot of money with all the stress of holding the liquor permit and being in charge of everything we didn't really get to enjoy the evening as much as we had hoped. Still totally worth it though.

I hope you have a great time!! Let us know how it goes pinkie.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
