Obama has pledged to make early education one of his top priorities.

Sorry to get off topic! I couldn't help myself since I worked on that issue for 4 straight years...
I think we are still on topic.

Learning more about programs like that is how I went from fiscally conservative/ socially liberal to full on liberal. I don't want a big government running everything. but there are things that I think are very important for government to handle. and by working more in preventitive measures, we can save tax dollars down the road. not just with education, but healthcare, the environment & other issues. The more I've learned about policy, the more I've seen that my old views on how things should be done do not work.

If you haven't read it already, I think you'd really enjoy the book i just finished. it's by paul tough.

i voted for obama. what can i say - i'm a teacher!

one of my 4th grade students told me that she (and her parents)think the best reward for teachers is to have their students learn. while i certainly agree that that is important, so is paying my mortgage - something totally overlooked by this particular family. i couldn't believe that those words came out of a 9 year old's mouth.

I bet a lot of people did! When I walked outside I passed a grey-haired white man standing there with tears in his eyes. We looked at each other and he said "didn't that feel good?" and I said "it sure did". We both voted Obama and for a state measure to preserve gay marriage...not sure if you're supposed to discuss that stuff at the polling place but we had a moment...lol

I voted Obama!

I agree with him on abortion, taxes, healthcare, the war, economy, education to name a few. PLUS I just love him as a person. He is very relatable and can identify with many Americans. He's not just black guys. He's mixed. His mother was white, father black and he was raised by his mothers parents. He worked his way through collage, paid off all the student loans he gained along the way, and worked him self to the position he is in now. He was a regular kid with dreams to be a basketball player, who went to college instead and gained an amazing education. AND he has an amazing gift of being able to inspire. He's an amazing man. And we will be truly lucky if we gain him as a president. He has run a respectable campaign and has stood by his integrity through this whole process.

The truly sad part, is that many people will not vote for him ONLY because of his skin color and they will not recognize or acknowledge how truly amazing he is.

And I read somewhere that he plans on just hanging out on the basketball court today with his family and staff. I couldn't image the pins and needles these candidates must feel. I wanted to throw up waiting for test scores back!

I participated in the poll. All I can say is that FI and I are voting different and it's amazing that we haven't strangled each other at some point. I generally don't talk politics as a rule of thumb, and FI can barely keep his trap shut about this election... so it's caused a bit of tension. LOL I'll just be glad when it's all done and over with!

Ok so I'm the outcast on this thread, but I say it proud that I'm voting for McCain! My FI, my dad who is a vet, my fam, & FI's fam all are too. Without getting into details that might start a debate that I don't and wont get into, imo- he's more experienced all a round, his views on abortion, climate policy, immigration, education, veteran, the fact that he fought and was a POW for this Country, etc etc etc. In regards to the Rolling Stone article- its just that - an article. I have read manyy disturbing articles about Obama, but I realize that they are more than likely false. I saw a website that said Obama was the anti christ and all this scary stuff, do I believe it, no of course not! There was a DVD I saw about corrupted muslim's and how Obama is working with them to overpower America and take us down, it's complete BS. People have to look past all the media and articles they read and realize that things are made up. At the end of the day though its "To each his own" ...regardless, whom ever the winner is, I hope they are being honest with us Americans and really help make this Country a better place. K bye bye before I get ambushed hahahaaaaaa
amen sista!:)

I am a registered Democrat - born and raised in DC - and really never knew a whole lot else except being a Democrat. ;-)

However, I voted McCain today.

A lot of my decision has to do with the fact that my husband is in the military.

A lot of people don't realize that regardless of who is elected into office, that the war is funded through 2012 ... and my husband is one of many soldiers who will be going back overseas (if not Iraq, then Afghanistan or Darfur) in 2010. I voted for the man - and party - that I believe will best support and protect my husband and others who will be fighting for our country during that time. I need to feel confident that I voted in a way to best ensure my husbands safe return home ... so that he can retire from the military and we can raise a family together.

I voted for McCain for other reasons as well (healthcare, not "spreading the wealth", etc ...) ... but that is my main reason.

However, there are issues, such as abortion, that I still side with the Democratic party on ... but I had to label my beliefs and priorities based on order of importance for myself and my family.

I truly believe that regardless of which party wins ... the US will remain a positive place to live and be proud of and that some of the current uncertainties will subside ... and that a lot of the negatives AND positives going on in our great society will continue - with either McCain or Obama as our nation's next leader.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
