I wish everyone thought and taught their children the same way. As a child, I grew up with so much hatred from people because my dad was African American and my mother was White. Thank you

I've read your Bible more than once and Jesus Christ is big on tolerance. You are entitled to your prejudice but the Christianity thing just isn't a good argument.

Sanctity is not defined by gender and discrimination should not be written into law, so I just voted a big fat NO on 8.

And I think Cali residents who have seen the commercials will agree - the 'yes on 8' propoganda has been disgusting...hate mongering at it's finest.

Also, the argument in favor of Proposition 8 is that it protects families and children. According to some conservative views, a child can best be raised by a mother and father. To create other situations is to break the family values.....

Hello? Are those people ignorant and in denial? Look around, does it look like all children are raised by both the mother and father in this generation? There are so many single parents, children born out of wedlock, and children raised by extended family and I'm sure most of these kids are loved and grow up to be normal healthy adults. In case people have not noticed, divorce rates are higher than 50% so their argument to "Keep the traditional family dynamics" is complete crap!

I cannot believe we are going through this! Did we not learn anything from the Civil Rights movements? ALL men and women are created equal! No person should have any rights taken away because they are "different" than others!

Oh, I also don't appreciate that Obama says he is against gay marraige....I like him but I think he is bullshitting. I don't think he is against gay marraiges any more than he is against interracial marraiges....I just think he has to say that for the votes.

I don't know about you but I would rather see a child living in a loving home with 2 dads then to see a child living in a broken home with a mom and dad who hate each other and fight all the time.

I am sad and embarrassed for my fellow Americans who see two people who love each other and think this is wrong.

I find it so incredibly sad that people feel that the bible is an excuse to discriminate against others. Jamy said it right on, the Bible (which only means book) is not meant to be taken the way some people do, it is a guide for life and if you believe in the sanctity of marriage than you should believe that anyone who loves another person should be able to dedicate their lives to each other and raise a family if they so wish.

I plan to raise my daughter with an open mind that not only should her uncle be allowed to marry anyone, but that if she wants to marry a person of another race, religion, gender, or whatever I don't really care as long as they are happy and love each other that's all that matters!

I wish I still lived in CA just so I could have voted on this terrible bill.

The supreme court in CA found the law unconstitutional once why can't people realize the court should have the final say in constitutionality of a law.

I completely agree with that. When I heard him say that in a debate I cringed...but I think some of those traditionally conservative voters he has been able to convert wouldn't have gone his way if he said he was for gay marriage. Politics as usual, right?

And yeah, the idea that if kids are exposed to gay marriage all hell would break loose is crazy. Do the opponents really think they are raising their kids in a bubble and it will take a law to show them people are gay? Or that a law would 'turn' their kids gay?

I wish people could raise their kids to be tolerant, open-minded people who can decide for themselves whether or not they are gay, and not hate people who aren't what they are!

ETA: Right on, Christine, I totally agree!

I teach US Government and would like to point this out to anyone who feels that this is a religious issue. I would like to say that you can have your religious and moral opinions all you want but please note that the United States Constitution which is the supreme law of our land says the following

Quote:
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Quote:
Article. VI.
All Debts contracted and Engagements entered into, before the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation.
This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.
The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.
in my opinion any state making a law that is based on a religious ideal is breaking the supreme law of the land and is in violation of the USC.

my entire family is from CA and one day my husband and I will probably move back there but I am ashamed to say that today. CA is supposed to be the progressive state, the one that shows the rest of the nation what is fair in this world and today they ruined that for me. I am embarrassed that so many people feel it is their right to decide who someone can marry and I am quite frankly disgusted.

Christine- I understand your sentiments. I am completely disappointed in the people of Ca.

For those that do use religion as their guide in voting for Prop 8, I would like to know why we pick and choose which of God's words we want to live by. Why aren't all of the Ten Commandments law? Why not make adultery illegal? Why allow those to worship other Gods? Why not enforce the day of Sabbath and make it illegal to work on Sundays?

I know this seems a little extreme, but I think making it a law that marriage is only between a man and woman is very extreme. That's the only point I'm hoping to make. If you use God's words as the reason for why it's right to enforce laws that forbid gay marriage, then I just want to know why we can pick and choose which of God's words we live by.

Rachel I completely agree with you! My FI and i had that discussion last night that people seem to pick and choose what is used from the Bible. I did grow up in a very Catholic private school so everything around me was religion and that was fine but i think when it becomes that it changes how laws are made that is definately not fair.

So if this official in California now?

I am sad to say it is official.

I am a native Cali girl and can't believe this is happening.

Christine, thanks for your post!

I have coworkers crying now cause their marriage might be null and void. It is horrible.

Why do people hate others so much?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
