January 2009 Brides Post Here

Recommended Posts

We've had a pretty productive week:

We may have found a shirt for FI. We went to a couple of places in town and out of everything he tried on, we really liked the Tommy Bahama shirts. Only problem is none of the places in town that carry them have any in white, they are all ivory. So, we're going to either head to Vancouver/Seattle to look in person or order on-line and use a friend's PO box in the US for delivery. They only seem to deliver in the US. At least we're getting close to getting this done. Then the only thing left will be sandles. MEC here we come!

I may have also found a wedding band. I found one I like. However, we're going to contact a couple of jewelers to see if we can get one custom made. Once we have mine picked out, we'll pick out one for FI that is complementary.

Next thing to really hunt down is a BM dress. As soon as we get that settled and the colour finalized (I'm waffling between a couple of colours), we can also order a shirt for the best man.

We've almost decided on a photographer. We have narrowed it down to 2 and are just waiting for clarification on a couple of questions. The answers to those questions will let us chose one.

By next weekend, I'm hoping (although I know it won't likely happen) that we get all of the above finalized. We're getting closer to being on track.

We don't need to make any decisions about a cake other than which one we want. My wedding package at the Palladium includes a cake, so we just need to chose one when we meet with the coordinator when we get down there to finalize everything. We will likely chose a cake topper before and bring it with us, but I haven't found any I like yet.

Hope everyone else is making progress. I can't believe how fast time seems to be flying.

Jennifer

We don't have clothing for the groom yet either.* However, that's on hold for now and my fiance is losing weight right now and wants to buy something closer to the date when he knows what size he will be.

My FI is in the same position. He has not decided what to wear yet, but he keeps dropping weight, so we have no idea even how to predict what he will be wearing. So... I may be looking for some great websites to purchase "tropical weather" mens clothing in December...

I must have missed this thread earlier... but I too am a January bride. If I did post, I didn't look back far enough to find it... not a very patient person.

Anyway, we sent our invitations last week. We sent a STD back in February, but felt it was time to get an "official" count. The RSVP date is December 1. People are still boooking rooms as of today... so we will see what happens. Our original count was about 20... we are now about 60... how exciting!

I did order my dress back in July. It should be arriving any day now. I can't wait to see it again. I still haven't decided if I will wear a veil or not, I really need to see the dress again.

We did register for gifts for my shower. It wasn't as bad as FI thought it would be... he hates shopping, but was a great sport. We are hoping to collect $$ for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in lieu of wedding gifts, but my friends insisted that I register for the shower.

We ordered our favors (embroidered beach towels) and they should be arriving soon as well.

My MOH dress and flower girls dresses have been chosen and I hope ordered. My sister in Ohio is taking care of that. BM shirts, father shirts, and ringbearer shirts have been purchased. My Dad has him complete outfit purchased and hanging in his closet (he is excited!)

We chose the meals for the reception and picked the flavor of cake.

We created an itinerary for the weekend and we are about to book a tour of the Ocho Rios area for our guests for the day before the wedding.

Am I forgetting anything?

Hi all! I am also a January bride...wow, I can't believe how the time is flying by!!!

Jodi,

Are you booking the tour through Reneehuh.gif...or who are you booking the tour through?? I was wondering about reserving a shopping tour & dunns river falls trip ahead of time...have you seen any threads or posts talking about other good trips to take while in Ocho Rios...we were looking at the horseback riding and rafting trips but I was hoping to get more info & maybe some "testimonials" of those who have been there!!

Sounds like your planning is going well!

That's right! Today I found and bought my wedding dress!

I bought that exact dress; color and all. Wasn't expecting to buy a red dress for my beach wedding, but everyone - even FH - loved it, so it was bought.

P.S. I don't know why I decided to stick my stomach out for the picture. LOL

Hi Steph!

No, we are not booking our tour through Renee or Beaches. My sister's sister-in-law just took a family cruise back in July and their port of call was Ocho Rios. She sent me the name of the company they used. It was much cheaper and is willing to work with a larger group... like I have. They only downside... we have to give a number up front and pay for half of the bill up front... but we decided it was worth it to give our guests the opportunity to do someting fun... and entertaining.

Here is the information- PM me if you need more!

I hope this helps!

Hi everybody!

My FI and I have been away in Utah, hiking thru all the gorgeous parks. I ended up spraining my foot on the last day, but it's getting better now (and thank goodness it happened on the last day!). I think I'll save mountain biking until after the wedding!

So I have all the big things done, of which I'm psyched: dress, BM dresses, FI's suit, hotel, reception spot, photog (waiting for contract to finalize), but it's the list of little things that's still long: BM gifts, music, designing programs (I bought the paper), OOT bag stuff, etc. My mom and I are going down for a site visit mid-November (should be some good bonding- I think she's really excited), so I think I'll be able to move ahead with everything (and will have to!) after that, but it's a little stressful being in planning limbo...anyone relate?

Hi Everyone,

I am a January 2009 bride too. I can't believe how much time has flown, and how quick January seems to be coming! Reading this thread, and seeing how much everyone has gotten done is making me nervous I feel very behind!!! All I have done really is send my invitations, buy my dress, and buy my wedding flip flops!! I look forward to getting to know you all, and hopefully reading your posts will get my butt in gear :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
