I totally agree with not bringing decorations, I mean that's great if some of you girls are, I just know for me I don't want another thing to stress about.
I haven't quite decided what I'm doing yet. I'm pretty sure I want centerpieces, but other than that I think I'll just let the resort do their thing (I'll do the OOT bags, programs etc.).

Hi girls,

I haven't posted in a while because I am still taking all of this in! I had no idea it would be this overwhelming. Right now, we are planning to stay and have our guests stay at one of the Iberostar resorts...most likely the Lindo or Maya. We are considering having our wedding here too but also looking into off-site options and prices. I was under the impression that wedding ceremonies/dinner at the IB cost $20pp over 10 guests, but I just read on an IB message board (IBEROSTAR HOTELS & RESORTS MESSAGE BOARD | IBEROSTAR REVIEWS & PHOTOS - Index) that if you want to rent out one of the restaurants for a private dinner it is $1000 for the rental and $50 pp for dinner. I assume this is true but wanted to confirm. Also, does anyone know what the cost of a cocktail hour is and the cost of an open bar during the dinner at the IB resorts?

I will be emaing the IB WCs but wanted to throw this out to the group as well.

Thanks for your help!!

Jillian

Hey Jillian,

I have all the pricing info for the Del Mar. I can email it to you if you want! The cost of the wedding ceremony includes set up, chairs, champagne, etc for 10 people. Every person over 10 is $18. To rent the Tropical Restaurant for a private reception/dinner is $800 for 4 hours. I think the dinner & drinks are included, but I need to double check on that-good question! Cocktail hour is $6 per person/per hour, and if you want appetizers included, it is $12 per person/per hour.

I had read that about the conference center as well, but then all my communications with the WC was that you could not have a private dinner. I'm not sure if you have to hae a minimum number of guests to rent that area out, and we didn't have a large enough group or maybe something else was already booked their on our day. That was never offered as an option for us though. It seems like things go back and forth with the rules on what you can and can't do.

The PP charge for us is $18 for over 10 guests, but no charge for kids under 12. The price went up from 2007 so $20 may be the price for when you are getting married. For us, the prices for just cocktails is $6 per person, per hour, and $12 per person, per hour if you want appetizers. I'm not sure if this price is different for your wedding date/year though. I don't know if you have to pay a pp fee for drinks during dinner. I thought it was only for a separate cocktail hour and for the after dinner reception.

As for decorations, I am only bringing a few things. I ordered smal blumeboxes to put flowers in for our centerpieces. I will get the flowers from the resort, but they said if we wanted vases or whatever we had to bring them or she could ask the florist (ie additional charge). The boxes are cardboard so they are lightweight and pack flat so not a big deal to bring them down. I also got tealight candle holders for the tables, but that is it. I think I am going to look for bottles of tequila and/or maracas when we get down to Mexico for the favors, and I am just going to bring down paper placecards. I don't want to have to bring down any more stuff than I have to, and from the people that I have talked to that have been to Riviera Maya we can get either of those items in the resort gift shop or in Playa Del Carmen. Yes, it will be a little running around when I get there, but less to pack and haul down on the plane. I don't have any decorations for the ceremony. I am only requesting a table for our sand ceremony set. I got raffia fans to put on the chairs with our programs. I tried wrapping ribbon around the handles and was only able to get the ribbon on one of the fans. The others were constructed too tightly for me to get the ribbon through so I gave up! I'll just have plain fans. Ha ha! At this point since we don't have much time left I'm not as concerned about the details, I just want to get stuff done.

This is the info I received from the WC regarding the convention center:

"Rental fee 500 us and 6 us per international open bar per person, per hour.

This is just for a private cocktail, in the case you are interested in dinner it has a charge for be a PRIVATE dinner. The charge is between 50 to 70 us per person for have dinner there and then extra the open bar. Usually for the private cocktails are just for two hours. Due they have dinner before.

Enclosed you can find the menu for the Convention Center, the time is flexible. The open bar is included for 2 hours ( during dinner) after this you have to pay the open bar per person per hour"

Thanks again,

I'll be doing a meet and greet. All of my guests are coming from Alberta so we're pretty much all going to be on the same flight. We get in a little later in the evening so, after we've all settled in and got our rooms etc., I'm going to have something in one of the lounges (probably lobby bar) for everyone to have some drinks and get to know each other. I'll also hand out the welcome bags etc., at that point. Friends of mine got married in Mexico last year and they did this, it was a great way for everyone to mix and mingle.

I also am doing a meet and greet. The WC said that we could get do this at the lobby bar with cocktails, but we want to be outside so I think all of the guests that will be arriving for the welcome cocktail hour will be meeting at the outside Las Olas bar - I did not request anything special for a private hosted thing. I didn't think it was necessary - I just want everyone to be able to meet. It seemed more casual and easy this way. I didn't plan on bringing the welcome bags - but since a lot of the guests will be on the same flight as me, or get in earlier it totally makes sense! Thanks for the tip! 9 days until I arrive at the Lindo...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
