Guests Costs....How much is too much???

Recommended Posts

Jen, I think we all had this struggle. I told my TA when we were looking that I wanted my guests to be around $1000 pp, and depending on the room they chose & how long they are staying they will be around this.

You do have to remember that its your day and don't base your decision on other people coming. I really wanted to get married in Antigua, I absolutely fell in love with it when I was doing research, but I was so concerned that it was going to be too expensive for people, and now people that we thought would definetly come aren't coming and I feel like I could have done antigua and it wouldn't have mattered. Not that I'm not happy with Dreams & Mexico, I still love this choice, and we would have spent so much more money in Antigua, we probably wouldn't have been able to stay as long as we are in mexico, but its always in the back of my mind!

So go with whichever resort you love and where you will be happy for your wedding. Are there different room types at MP so that your guests can get a less expensive room if they want to?

Thanks Jilly :) I hear ya on that.....I wanted to get married in St. Lucia but to much $$$$!!!! So, I actually feel like I've already compromised by having it at a less expensive location....even though I am excited about Mexico!
All the rooms at MP are about the same, I think the "golf rooms" or something are MORE expensive.....But, I keep forgetting that people can stay at other resorts! I mean, its kind of a PITA to have people spread out all over the place, but WHATEVER! Hahahaha! I think I will keep researching......I'm going dress shopping with my mom and two sisters tomorrow smile159.gif so I'm going to talk to them too, since all Matt will say is "whatever you want is fine" (This is the ONLY time that I don't want to hear that phrase...so of course he uses it.....hahaha!)

Honestly, We're going to my friend's wedding in Sept. And our goal is to keep it around 2k for both of us, 4nights/5days...and it's at an AI resort. It's in PV...it would actually be cheaper for us if it were in Cancun 'cause the flight would be less expensive but, oh well! Personally, I think at least having an AI resort as an option is good, simply because people really don't have to spend much $$ once they get there if they don't want to.

And I'm sure I'm biased, but I LOVE the Moon Palace! I think you guys would really like it. It's super close to the airport and big enough that once the guests are there...they don't really need to leave for anything unless they want to. Tons of options for food and stuff. On a three day stay they wouldn't have to eat at the same place twice unless they wanted to.

Anyway, just babbling...my hubby and I honeymooned there and have every intention of going back sometime! ;-)

I guess people will complain no matter what, so I just have to do the best I can and make sure its something that I am satisfied with :)
Jaime--My sister's mother-in-law is a TA and she highly recommends Iberostar resorts.....we hadn't even really looked into Iberostar b/c alot of people we know have been to them....BUT/....we might have to rethink that!
Hey Jen - If you're staying at Moon Palace you will not be staying at a subpar resort. It is great! I paid 1900 to stay there over New Years and it was worth every penny!

While I agree with keeping guests costs reasonable, I also believe that you're guests will walk away from the experience feeling like they got their moneys worth. It's like a two for one deal - wedding AND vacation! What could be better?? :)

As long as people are free to stay wherever they please (and I assume they are) then I think it is perfectly reasonable to choose the place you love. We are getting married at the Hilton in Cabo and right now the rooms are booking at $215 +tax) for the night. For some of our guests that is a reasonable amount and for some it is not. because I knew a lot of my friends wouldn't be able to afford this i also found another hotel that's nearby (like 1 mile away) that is a lot more affordable - $90/night (marbella en la playa for you Cabo gals) which can comfortably sleep two and could probably fit four. I just made it very clear to people when they asked where they should stay that the Hilton is expensive and that this place is close-by and very-cute.

We had no problem meeting our room block requirement (20 paid nights) between us and our family plus friends who were excited about the resort and had the extra money (or Hilton points).

So anyway this is my long version of saying that just pick the place you love. Give people tyo option t stay there or to stay at a more affordable place. Who cares if everyone isn't staying together? I'm sure that my friends who are down the road will happily cab/bus/drive over to spend the day with us! Plus what's nice is now we actually have a bunch of friends in this one other hotel so they also have each other!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
