Yep, Capital One and Macy's said it's for my protection and I had to do it that way. And it gets better, I ordered concert tickets and put my "new" name as the credit card holder because it had been over a week since I made the change...Ticketmaster said the names didn't match so I explained and gave my maiden name, and "for my protection" they wouldn't send me the tickets anymore. I had to go in person to pick them up, and pay a $1 convenience charge...it's madness I tell you! LOL

I got my new license in the mail in like 2 weeks.
In CA you can't even print out the form online and take it in, another safety concern. I had to go to the DMV and stand in line for the form (because those forms aren't sitting out with the others for safety reasons). Then I filled it out, got back into line, and was given a number to wait for the person I had to show my documents to!

I'm going to the DMV tomorrow - wish me luck.

Oh, and did I ever tell you about when I went to change my name with my bank. I still bank with Bank of America (even though I'm no longer an employee.) So the first thing I did was call them and ask what was needed. They told me I could go to any branch and all I needed was my marriage certificate (MC.) I even told the woman on the phone that my MC is in Spanish, would that be a problem? She said no. Ok great! So I go to a branch in my neighborhood and ask them to make the change. They tell me I need my SS card too (which I hadn't received yet.) And I was PISSED because I SPECIFICALLY called and asked so I wouldn't waste my time. >

So, I wait for my SS card to come in the mail and I attempt to visit a different branch. When I get there, they tell me there is no one there to translate the MC. >

So I go to a THIRD branch and basically tell the guy, "This is my third attempt to change my name - here's how it's going to work." He was very apologetic and said he would help me. I told him I was an ex-employee and that the freaking bank has my fingerprints on file for crying out loud. He thens asks me if I have any other documents with my new name (in addition to the MC and SS card.) I was like, "Buddy, I'm going to STAB you if you don't change my name today." He changed it. Needless to say, I'm looking for a new bank.
What a hassle. I would be extremely irritated!

Great information Glenda, thank you for posting it.

I am surprised at how easy it is to have it changed for credit cards, bills, cell phones, etc.

I *still* have not changed my name and as I discussed with Jamy, if I were still in Mexico, I wouldn't - women just don't legally change it. I was trying to figure out a way to have my maiden and his last name both as my last name so I could go by either one.

I was thinking of you and wondering how it's coming along...it's such a big decision and a lengthy process so don't do anything until you are certain! I can't imagine how tough it would be to change your name a third time LOL

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
